11) (a) (i) Determine the mesh current I1, in the circuit shown in figure - 2.

(b) Find the node voltages V1 and V2 and also the current supplied by the source for the
circuit shown below.

12) (a) (i) Determine the Thevenins equivalent circuit across terminal AB in figure 5. (8).
(ii) A voltage of v(t) = 141.4 sin t is applied to the circuit shown in figure 9. The
circuit dissipates 450 W at a lagging power factor, when the voltmeter and ammeter
readings are 100 V and 6 A, respectively. Calculate the circuit constants.

13) (a) The figure 8 shows a 64 mH inductor with a 700 winding resistance F

connected in series with a 3.3 K resistor. A 10 V, 5 KHz supply is applied to the
circuit. Calculate the circuit current and the inductor terminal voltage. Also draw the
phasor diagram.

14) (a) For the circuit shown in figure 10, calculate the times t1, t2 and t3, then plot the
capacitor voltage versus time graph and also determine the instantaneous values of

(b) (i) In the circuit of figure below, switch S1 is closed at t = 0 and then after 5 milliseconds,
switch S2 is opened. Find the transient currents.

Derive an expression for Transient current in RC series circuit.

15. (a) Three identical coils each having a resistance of 20 and a reactance of 20 are
connected in (i) Star (ii) Delta across 440 V, 3 phase supply. Calculate for each case,
line current and reading in each of the watt meters connected to measure power. (16)

(b) (i) A symmetrical three phase 400 V system supplies a balanced delta connected
load. The current in each branch circuit is 20 A and phase angle 40 (lag) calculate
the line current and total power.

(ii) A three phase delta connected load has Zab = (100+j0) ohms, Zbc = (-j100) ohms

and Zca = (70.7+j70.7) ohms is connected to a balanced 3 phase 400 V supply.


Determine the line currents Ia, Ib and Ic. Assume the phase sequence abc.
