Strength of Materials: 2. Assume Missing Data, If Any, Suitably

This document appears to be an exam for a Strength of Materials course, consisting of 8 questions across two parts (A and B). It provides information on the exam such as the duration, maximum marks, and instructions to answer 5 full questions with at least 2 from each part. The questions cover a range of topics in strength of materials, including stress and strain calculations, bending moment and shear force diagrams, torsion, column buckling, and elastic constants. Diagrams and calculations of specific structural problems are also included.

Important Note : 1. On completing your answers, compulsorily draw diagonal cross lines on the remaining blank pages.
2. Any revealing of identification, appeal to evaluator and /or equations written eg, 42+8 = 50, will be treated as malpractice.

Note: 1. Answer FIVE full questions selecting atleast TWO questions from each part.
2. Assume missing data, if any, suitably.

Calculate: i) Circumferential and longitudinal stresses; ii) Change in volume.
(10 Marks)
b. A rectangular block of material is subjected to stresses on perpendicular faces as shown.
Find: i) The normal stress and shear stress on a plane for which = 20 and
