ABSTRACT
In this document, I present a theoretical model, which grows together the elements of how a
project is handled or managed by the manager. The data have been gathered from various
sources mainly from academic literature, and a qualitative analysis has been carried out.
The core category of the model is How to effectively and efficiently manage a Project. The
analysis and the model answer the question of principles and practices should be considered
in maintaining a project.
It is based on the philosophies that are linked to the categories: Role of Project manager,
types of skills to be used, timely completion, methods, saving resources, proper resource
allocation and etc.

WORKING METHODOLOGY
Project management is the discipline of initiating, planning, executing, controlling, and closing
the work of a team to achieve specific goals and meet specific success criteria.
The primary challenge of project management is to achieve all of the project goals and
constraints. And to achieve this ultimate goal, a dedicated person is needed with a team who
will look after all the necessary things.
This task is performed by Project Manager, he is the first point of contact for any issues or
discrepancies arising from within the heads of various departments in an organization before
the problem escalates to higher authorities.
In this assignment, we are supposed to plan the entire project effectively from the very
initiation to the closure.
Project chosen for this assignment: Improvising Sports culture in India.
During the course of this assignment, initially I will be discussing about the ongoing sports
culture in India and the need to improve it. And the plans and techniques to execute this
project.
This is a hypothetical project, hence all the details are generated by me after referring
academic literature & articles
India is home to a diverse population playing many different sports across the country.
India is home to a diverse population playing many different sports across the
country. Cricket is the most popular sport. Football is the popular sport in some of the Indian
states.
The country has won eight Olympic gold medals in field hockey, another popular game in
India. Kabaddi, an indigenous sport is popular in rural India. Several games originated in India
including Chess, Snooker and other regional games.
India has won medals in Badminton, Kabaddi, Hockey and many other sports and disciplines.
Cricket is the most played sport followed by Badminton and Football. The other popular spots
being Badminton, Football, Tennis, Hockey, and Kabaddi. India also hosts several major
events associated with Tennis, Badminton, and Hockey etc.
India has hosted and co-hosted several international sporting events, including
the 1951 and 1982 Asian Games, the 1987, 1996 and 2011 Cricket World Cup, the 2003 AfroAsian Games, the 2010 Hockey World Cup and the 2010 Commonwealth Games.
The Indian Premier League (IPL) is a premier twenty 20 cricket league held every year from
2008. The Indian Super League is a football league tournament held since 2014. Major
international sporting events annually held in India include the Chennai Open in tennis,
the Indian Masters in golf. From 2011 to 2013, India hosted the Indian Grand Prix Formula 1
race at the Buddh International Circuit, Greater Noida.
All the above stated facts may sound good but in reality the sports culture in India needs to
be improved. In a country of 1.3 billion where 60% of the population is young wherein we
have great potential but we lack proper sports infrastructure and bodies.
In such a scenario, where no favourable ambience is being created, sports culture is not
evolving here. Time has come for rethinking and taking a relook at the whole scenario. A
holistic approach has to be made which will encompass all the factors and ground work has
to be done to address this issue of poor sports culture.
modern games such as association football (soccer), lacrosse and field hockey. The ability to
throw a killing implement far and accurately was transformed from a survival skill into a game
skill like javelin or disc throwing. Although no modern team game is based on jumping, the
action is widely used as an adjunct in games, most notably in basketball and volleyball.
Sports can make significant socioeconomic impact on a nation and its citizens. It plays an
important role in ensuring physical fitness and healthy lifestyle among the citizens of a
country. It unites people from diverse backgrounds, hence promoting peace and
development. With the Government providing numerous opportunities to sportspersons,
sports also promotes social inclusiveness. The sports sector has the potential to make
significant contribution to the economy.
Though there is no study in India that assesses the socio-economic impact of the sector, a
study undertaken by Sport England in 2013 highlights the significant contribution that it could
make to a countrys society and economy. The potential of sport in bringing about a positive
social change is evident from initiatives such as the FIFA Football for Hope movement. This
is a global movement that seeks to provide visibility and support to various social
organisations that use football as an instrument in their social development programs. Sport
the Bridge is another such initiative that lays emphasis on sport pedagogies to promote social
inclusion among street children in Ethiopia.
And also, there are so many sports known to have their roots from India only but due to some
circumstance and other unavoidable issues such as social inequality, economic misbalance,
government lays less emphasis on sports
So, at this juncture it becomes important to have some more sports oriented schemes to
encourage and improvise sports culture in India.
PROJECT PLANNING
A project plan, project charter and/or project scope may be put in writing, outlining the work
to be performed. During this phase, a team should prioritize the project, calculate a budget
and schedule, and determine what resources are needed.
Project Tittle: Sports bring us together
Project Sports bring us together subscribes to the Erasmus + Programme initiative in the
field of sports.
HYPOTHESES: The Study has the following hypotheses to be tested.
(i) Professional and rigorous coaching provides ample and healthy means for developing
sports persons.
(ii) Necessary infrastructure and incentives increase the efficiency of coaches as well as
trainees in different sports events.
Objectives:
The main objective of the study is to assess the impact of Scheme in benefiting the trainees
and to study the problems and constraints faced by the coaches as well as trainees for
accelerating the sports culture.
The following are the specific objectives of the study.
To study the status of sports and make the schemes accordingly, it objectives is
implementation and deployment of coaches in different disciplines at different centres.
To find out the role of coaches in assisting the states in establishing and running of
Regional Coaching Centres.
Target groups: Youth living in large cities and their surrounding areas.
Type of partners wanted: Public bodies, NGOs in the fields of youth and/or sport.
Proposed planning
The sport events proposed are: fitness, aerobics, street ball, table tennis, tennis, cross, biking
/ roller skating, climbing, tree climbing, touristic orientation, archery, rowing, martial arts
(aikido), dance sport.
Besides these events, the project will promote young local artists through concerts, urban
culture events (graffiti, stunts on BMX bike type), sports-related seminaries, presentation of
a national sport from the various participating body. The duration of the event: 3-5 days
wherein workshops will be conducted and all the interested students or youth will be
oriented.
Greater emphasis will be laid upon the regional sports and our national game. Infrastructural
support will be provided to the youth for which help from other organisations such as SAI
sports authority of India will be needed.
Attaches priority to promotion of games and sports in schools.
Seeks to involve the Panchayati Raj Institutions actively.
Seeks to mobilize mass media for introducing a sport culture.
Sports disciplines based on proven potential.
Priorities seeks to prepare the annual calendar well in advance for providing required
support to the sports persons for participation in major events.
Lays greater emphasis on scientific support to sports persons.
Provides easy access to international quality sports equipment.
Lays greater emphasis on training and development.
Setting up of a National Sports Development Fund for mobilizing resources from other
sources other than government
The project value: 5,00,000/Duration of project: 3 year (from preparation to follow-up).
29.3 percentage population in the age group of 0-14 years
Middle class as a percentage of population is estimated to increase from 4 per cent in 2005
to 41 percent by 2025.
The average share of educational and recreational activities in the annual household
consumption is estimated to increase from 5 per cent in 2005 to 9 per cent by 2025.
Indias economic growth potential, thanks to a large young population, is of interest to the
entire world. Inculcating a healthy sporting culture among its youth to build a physically and
mentally sound nation is integral in ensuring sustainable growth in the future. As per a survey
conducted by Edu Sports in 201112 covering more than 49,000 across the country, obesity
is increasing among schoolchildren in urban India with one in four in the metros and one in
six in non-metros being overweight.
The survey highlights lack of structured inclusive sports curriculum as the primary reason for
alarming obesity and poor health levels apart from lack of proper sports infrastructure and
urban lifestyle.
PROJECT EXECUTION
Resources tasks are distributed and teams are informed of responsibilities. This is a good time
to bring up important project related information.
These are the Achievements of India in certain non-Olympic sports. By benchmarking these
achievements. Focus must be laid on these sports.
The time table so formed in planning phase must be executed effectively and efficiently in
this phase.
Initially Workshops need to be conducted in the selected cities for the following sports at a
regular interval of time:
Proper Sports ecosystem is supposed to be created and maintained during the course of
this project.
A comprehensive sports ecosystem ideally includes various dimensions or segments that go
into establishing and developing a sport, and various stakeholders in all these segments. The
evolution of a sports ecosystem may be evaluated by the extent of interaction and awareness
among stakeholders within and across various segments. Increased transparency and
10
professionalism in the system, coupled with growing awareness amongst all stakeholders, can
result in the creation of a better evolved sports ecosystem of a country.
Some of the key identified segments of the sports ecosystem are sports governance; talent
scouting and training players and trainers; sports infrastructure, sports equipment (industry);
sporting leagues and tournaments; and performance incentives for sportspersons. These
segments and key stakeholders in the respective segments are identified and represented.
11
PROJECT CONTROLLING
Project managers will compare project status and progress to the actual plan, as resources
perform the scheduled work. During this phase, project managers may need to adjust
schedules or do what is necessary to keep the project on track.
Things to have check on:
To find out the role of coaches in assisting the states in establishing and running of
Regional Coaching Centres.
To examine the involvement of coaches assisting Sports Departments/
Universities/Associations/Boards by providing coaching of National, Inter University and
other teams for different sports competition.
To ascertain whether the coaches have conducted the annual coaching camps and
preparing the state teams.
To look into the assistance rendered to the NYK by the coaches in their efforts to cover
the rural youth in any programme prepared for sports development. 16
To assess the implementation of Government of India programmes for the development
of rural sports by conducting tournaments/competitions/coaching camps.
To identify the problems faced by the coaches to suggest measures for improvement of
the scheme to accelerate the pace of sports event.
After identifying the problems rescheduling or proper steps are supposed to be taken. If the
allotted budget does not satisfy the needs of project, then some sponsorship model is
required.

PROJECT CLOSURE
After project tasks are completed and the client has approved the outcome, an evaluation is
necessary to highlight project success and/or learn from project history.
Projects and project management processes vary from industry to industry; however, these
are more traditional elements of a project. The overarching goal is typically to offer a product,
change a process or to solve a problem in order to benefit the organization.
At the time of project closure, all the things will be documented. All the outcomes will be
compared to the expected ones.
Proper incentives should be given to the people who deserves it to motivate them.
A proper report should be submitted to all the stakeholders with highlights on the problems
faced so that it can be used for further projects.
14
FURTHER RECOMMENDATIONS
This project may close after certain period of time but this is an ongoing battle which will
last until the sports culture of India will improve. Following are some recommendation
which can be considered after closing.
Increased popularity of sports through the media will help attract sponsors and
advertisers to support various community-level competitions/leagues in the long run as
well

CONCLUSION
As we see sports have travelled a long journey on the way of their upliftment in the Indian
society. Government and Non-Government agencies have worked a lot for the broad basing
of sports in the country, but a lot is to be done yet in this regard. People are also getting
attracted toward games due to many incentives offered on various stages in the form of cash
prizes, and reservation in jobs under sports quota etc. It is a good omen for the country that
we are receiving positive results in all the sports especially in athletics. With such sincere
efforts on the part of both - government and public, we can hope that Indian Tri - colour will
soar high because of sports achievements.
As the projects being implemented at the centre are people based, they have had a huge
impact on the communities reached. We are looking at creating a lasting legacy starting small.
It could have been ideal to have financial resources for the sport and environment projects;
however, lack of it will not deter our efforts. It is the small things that make a huge impact.
Our efforts have already shown they can yield some results.
