Road Thickness Design of Carriagway

This document details the design of a carriageway road for a 15-year period. Traffic estimates project an average daily traffic of 60 vehicles growing at 2% annually. Commercial vehicles are estimated to be 2% of total traffic. Based on these estimates, the equivalent standard axles over 15 years is calculated to be 14,000. The required carriageway thickness is determined to be 13.3cm. Taking into account material layer coefficients and minimum thicknesses, the recommended pavement structure consists of a 2.6cm asphalt wearing surface, 5cm asphalt binder layer, 22.5cm crushed aggregate base, and no subbase layer.

years design period:

3.3) Total daily one-way traffic flow of both non-commercial and commercial vehicles at the
end of the design period, Vx:
Vx = (ADT/2) x (1+r)x
= 40.3760501 veh/day/lane
3.4) Equivalence factor:
Refering to "ARAHAN TEKNIK (JALAN) 5/85", table 3.1,

e = 3.7
3.5) Total equivalence standard axles:
ESA = Vc x e
= 1.40E+04
3.6) Maximum hourly one-way traffic flow:
c= IxRxT
Refering to "ARAHAN TEKNIK (JALAN) 5/85", table 3.2, table 3.3 and table 3.4,

I = 1000
c = 627

R = 0.64

T = 100/(100+

Assuming hourly capacity is 10% of daily capacity.

C = 6275
veh/day/lane
> Vx
Hence, capacity has not been reached after the design period.

3.3) The estimated daily traffic V after 10 years is given by

Vx= (V(1+r)*10)/2
Vx= 420

3.4) Equivalence factor:
Refering to "ARAHAN TEKNIK (JALAN) 5/85", table 3.1,
