Description
This manual is for the VP-100 Ticket Acceptor with an AP-100 logic board. Do not
use this manual if you have an earlier version logic board. Earlier version boards lack a
USB connector and are not labeled AP100.
VP-100 takes tickets and outputs pulses that can be connected to the coin input of a video
game. This allows a customer who has won tickets to use those tickets to continue
playing the game.
VP-100 requires barcoded tickets. The operator programs it to accept only a specific
barcode. Contact Deltronic Labs for details on the required barcode format.
The operator can also apply an adjustment factor. The adjustment factor can be a
multiplier or a divider. Multiplier adjustment factors cause each ticket to produce
multiple pulses. Divider adjustment factors each pulse to require multiple tickets. The
adjustment factor range is 1 to 64.

Installation
There are four cables that connect to the AP-100 logic borad:
1. Power
The power cable connects to P1 on the AP-100. It has three wires:
Orange
+12 VDC
Red
+5 VDC
Black
Ground
2. Game & Counter
This cable connects to P2 on the AP-100. It has 3 wires:
Green
Coin switch input of the game

Audit counter
(- side if polarized)
Blue
Audit counter
(+ 12 V side if polarized)
3. Motor
The motor is pre-wired with red and black wires. They connect to P4 on the AP100.
4. Reader Board
The reader board is on top of the acceptor. It connects to P10 and P12 on the AP100

Configuration
The AP-100 has three components that are used to configure the board. There are a set of
8 DIP switches, a jumper near the DIP switches, and the SW1 push button.
The DIP switches serve two purposes depending
upon the position of the jumper. When the
jumper is in position 1 the AP-100 reads the DIP
switches on power-up. The switch settings
control group 1 options. After reading the
switches the AP-100 will do nothing until it is
powered down and the jumper is moved to
position 2.

To set group 1 options:

1.

3.
4.
5.

Turn off the power

Set the DIP switches
Move the jumper to position 1
Turn on the power
Insert a ticket. If the motor turns on then the jumper was not in position 1 on
power-up. Start over at step 1.
6. Turn off the power.
7. Move the jumper to position 2.
8. Set the DIP switches as instructed below.

Adjustment Factor
Group 2 options control the adjustment factor. When in normal operating mode (jumper
in position 2), these options are continuously read from the DIP switches. It is not
necessary to power down each time a switch is changed. Set switch 1 on for a divide
adjustment, off for a multiply adjustment.
A multiply adjustment causes each ticket to produce multiple pulses. For example: Two
tickets inserted with an adjustment factor of five will produce ten pulses.
A divide adjustment factor makes each pulse require multiple tickets. For example: Six
tickets inserted with an adjustment factor of three will produce two pulses. Eight tickets
inserted will also produce two pulses, but the extra two tickets are remember so that one
more ticket inserted will reach the three required and produce a pulse.
Switches 2 to 7 set the adjustment factor. To determine the adjustment factor, add
together the value associated with each switch that is on. Then add 1 to the total. The
range of possible adjustment factor is 1 to 64. For example: If switches 3 ,4, and 5 are
on the adjustment factor is 15 (2 + 4 + 8 + 1 = 15).

Auditing
A 12 V pulse counter can be connected to the system for auditing purposes. Refer to the
installation section for details on connecting the counter. The counter counts pulses sent
to the game, not tickets inserted. To determine the number of tickets inserted you must
take the adjustment factor into account.

Ticket Jams and Errors

If a customer inserts tickets with the wrong barcode or without a barcode the VP-100 will
stop after a few tickets and refuse to do anything. The length of this error timeout is
either 1 second or 10 seconds depending upon how you have set the error timeout option.
A ticket jam can also trigger the error timeout. If the ticket strip is long enough to remain
in the mechanism, the motors will start again after the timeout expires. After the third
failure in row, the system will not start again until it is powered down and restarted.

Miscounts
Some conditions that can cause miscounts are:
1.
2.
3.
4.
5.

Partial tickets.
Poor quality printing on the barcode.
Smudged barcodes and very dirty tickets.
Customer holding onto or pulling back on the tickets.
Power loss while counting.

Programming Barcodes
The VP-100 must be programmed to recognize your tickets barcode. To do this you will
need a strip of seven tickets. The programming procedure is:
1.
2.
3.
4.

Press the SW1 button on the AP-100.

Insert a strip of seven tickets
The motor will turn on and take in the tickets.
To indicate that the programming is successful, the motor will turn on and off
three times. Then it returns to normal operation.
