The Mercy of God - Invitation (Sermon)

TEXT: Matthew 20:29-34
THESIS: To encourage us to consider the mercy of God and follow His Son.
INTRODUCTION:
1. The mercy of God in one of the key to understand Gods dealing
with humankind.
2. Mercy described a quality and attribute of God.
3. Mercy denotes the compassion, the goodness, the sympathy and
love of God.
4. When we consider this passage, we notice a condition, a need and a
remedy.
DISCUSSION:
I. THE CONDITION.
A. Their condition was blindness (v.30).
B. Such condition of characteristic of them, made them less than
others.
C. There were two persons, two souls, they were important to
Christ.
D. All of us are important to Christ
II. THE NEED.
A. Their need was to be able to see.
B. They cried out (screamed): Have mercy on us O Lord, thou Son
of David.
C. They were asking for mercy to the one that is all mercy.
D. People tried to hinder them in their attemption to get Jesus
attention, but they cried out more (v. 31): Have mercy on
us O Lord, thou Son of David.
E. Once they had Jesus attention, they expressed their need: That
our eyes may be opened.
III. THE REMEDY.
A. So Jesus had compassion on them (v. 34).
B. This reminds me one of the most known verses in the Bible, in
which God shows us His love and mercy for us: For God so
loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that
whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have
everlasting life (John 3:16).
C. and immediately their eyes received sight: Jesus was the
remedy for them; He restored their eyes, they received the
sight.
D. The Father had compassioned on us by sending His Son.
8. Dear friend and Dear Christian, Jesus had compassion/mercy on two blind and
restore their sight, their respond was to go after Him, to follow Him. would you
follow Jesus? please come forward, as together we stand and sing.
