Sensor For Flood Warning FYP Proposal

This document presents a flood alarming system that uses sensors to monitor water levels. If the water level exceeds a threshold, the system sends an SMS alert to authorities. The system aims to more accurately and cost-effectively monitor flood levels in threatened areas and instantly alert residents, as current methods rely on satellite data and predictions. It discusses implementing the system using an Arduino board and GSM module to read analog sensor signals, convert them to digital water level readings, and send SMS alerts when thresholds are breached. The system is intended to provide immediate warnings to authorities via SMS when flood levels rise.

Flood Alarming Through

GSM
Literature Review:
Currently in the south pacific the meteorological department get the weather data
from the satellite and then predict the average rainfall in the area. Research has
been done on flood monitoring system using GIS hydrological model in china. Again
with the use of satellite this system reads the water level and then subtracts the
surface elevation to get the height of flood. Moreover most of the flood level system
depends on satellite to predict the flood data. However there was a need of a
system which automatically reads the data rather than predicting in the threatened
area and then alerts the residence instantly. This will accuracy and cost
effectiveness in the technology

Abstract:
We presenting a prototype of flood alarming system. The system monitors water
level sensing network installed in flood defenses (dames, embankments),which
reads the level of water and by converting the analog signal into digital signal to
calculate the height. If the height is greater than threshold defined by the designer
the system send the water level and rate data through SMS to the concern
authorities regarding the rise in the water level. The system keep on checking the
level of water and provides an efficient notification system.

Introduction:
The global climate change during the first half of the nineteenth century has
brought a tremendous impact on the high mountainous glacial environment .Due to
the faster rate of ice and snow melting, possibly caused by the global warming, the
sea level is increasing rapidly and resulting in a sudden discharge of large volumes
of water and debris causing flooding of the low lying area. With this ever-increasing
regularity of flood damage, a definite need has emerged for an early warning for
regions demand to be 'at high risk' from flooding. Furthermore the high level of
damage to properties and losses of lives are the underlying factor in the
development early warning system-flood level monitoring system.

Objectives:
The main objective of this data is to monitor water level every time and when it
exceed certain limit we will inform relevant authorities before flood arrives to that
area.It will also show the rate at which water increasing or decreasing.

Flow chart of Project:

Hardware Implementation:
Arduino , GSM module, Regulators, LCD, Transformer.

Feasibility Of The Project:

The Mobile phone has one of the most popular communication device amongst the
people all over the world. At present 60% of world population use mobile phones.
GSM network started its operation in 1991, the SMS has become popular as it
provide cheap, convenient and faster method of communication. Recent activities
in the automation showed an advert of SMS based intelligent home which are
designed to alert the users via SMS in case of emergency. ZigBee and wifi
technology is used for wireless remote controlling; however the distance is very
small when compared to GSM control.
The main advantages of project are;

Immediate warning provided by the GSM system as compared to satellite

monitoring.

Cheap operation cost provided through use of SMS service.

Rapid growth of mobile industry.

Availability of mobile nearly every household or locality.

Ability to inform the authorities directly without any middlemen being

involved.

Conclusion:
The proposed project monitors flood over remote areas. It gives an immediate alert
of increasing water along the railway tracks to the station master. It send direct
notification to the concerned authorities.Fast service is provided which is essential
to make people caution of danger. Possibility to feed multiple contacts numbers and
reset them using EEPROM.
