Koalawithastar ENG 2016
Hello!
Thank you for buying my master class (MC). There is not just a simple instruction
in front of you, it is a fantastic chance to create a piece of light, kindness and
warmth with your own hands, which will make the world brighter and more
comfortable. I wish you have pleasure both from the process itself and from the
result.
With best wishes from Chuchkalova Marina
Koalas are touching, trustful and always peaceful bears. At first sight, they win
peoples hearts with their funny, fluffy ears and oval, flattened nose that looks like
a patch. Koalas live high in trees and collect the stars from the night sky. Then
they give the stars to people who have a lifelong dream. Then these dreams
come true

Difficulty middle
Size*
Approx 26 cm (10.2") tall
* with DK weight yarn and a 2.0 mm crochet hook (US size 0/A)
Materials and tools you will need:
1. Yarn: for the body light gray (Alize Cotton Gold 200)
Black for the shoes and the nose (Alize Cotton Gold 60)
For clothing and accessories of your choice. I used apricot (Yarn Art
Jeans 23), light green (Yarn Art Jeans 11), yellow (Yarn Art Jeans 35)
milky (Alize Cotton Gold 01).), light pink (Alize Cotton Gold 371)
You need gray fine mohair yarn for the ears (Alize Kid Royal 250 m/25
gr. 52) and white (Nako Mohair Delicate 6101)
2. 2.0 crochet hook (US size 0/A)
3. Stuffing (Polyester fiberfill)
4. White felt
5. Artists soft pastels
6. Two black half beads 12 mm.
7. Super glue for gluing eye
8. Tapestry needle
Move the beginning of the round to the middle of the body by crocheting 30
sc-s. When you will crochet the 30rd st, change the yarn to the apricot.
Then alternate the colours as follows: 5 rows of the apricot colour and 4
rows of the milk colour.
Add a bit more stuffing and close the opening - with tapestry needle, weave
tail through the front loops of remaining 6 stitches and pull tight to close.
Hide the yarn tail inside.
ARMS (make 2)
Stuff in the course of crocheting. With gray:
1 rnd: mr, 6 sc (6)
2 rnd: 6 inc (12)
3 rnd: (1 sc, inc) 6 (18)
4-5 rnd: 2 rounds sc in eash st. (18)
6 rnd: 17 sc, 3 dc with common base and common vertex (18)
EARS (make 2)
Crochet the ears in two threads. The first thread is the basic grey, the head and
the arms were knitted with it. The second is the fine mohair yarn. I used Alize Kid
Royal 52 grey.
Note: you can use any grey mohair yarn for the ears, crochet in two-ply yarns
without the main thread (for example, Nako Mohair Delicate)
1 rnd: mr, 6 sc (6)
2 rnd: 6 inc (12)
10
NOSE:
With black.
1 rnd: mr, 6 sc (6)
2 rnd: 6 inc (12)
3 rnd: (1 sc, inc) 6 (18)
4-9 rnd: 6 rounds sc in eash st. (18)
10 rnd: (4 sc, dec) 3 (15)
Do not stuff, fold the nose in half.
Crochet sc, then make the puff stitch (or 3 DC with common base and common
vertex) in this sc, insert the hook in the center of the nose and make sl st,
then crochet ch1 and make the second puff stitch (the second nostril). Fasten the
puff stitch from the left edge. Leave the tail for the sewing
11
TAIL:
Crochet the tail in two-ply yarns just like ears.
1 : mr, 6 sc (6)
2 : 6 inc (12)
3 : (1 sc, inc) 6 (18)
4 : sc in eash st (18)
Cut the yarn, leaving a yarn tail for sewing.
Cut 12 pieces of white mohair yarn. It should be 6-7 cm. length. Then attach 6 of
them to inside base of each ear. Fluff up the bushes and cut off the extra yarn.
12
Tone the top bend of of the ear with the grey soft pastel pencil.
Nose
Pin the nose and sew it by grabbing alternately the loops of the nose and the
loops of the head. Dont sew the bottom edge.
Wrap the thread around the nose and take out the needle through the nose
from right to the left. Cut the yarn, hide the tail inside the head. ut white felt for
the mouth and glue under the nose.
13
Eyes
Move 5 stitches in the sides from the nose and place the pins for eyes. Now we
need to tighten the places for the pupils. Take the needle and the grey thread.
Make the entrance of the needle through the first eye and out through the second.
Make one horizontal stitch with 2 loops width and put the needle back into the
first eye. Pull the thread tightly to make hollows. Repeat 2-3 times. Try the half
beads to fit the size of the hollows.
14
Attach the first arm (the tail should be 10 cm long), then insert the needle in the
body and take it out through the other side of the same level. Make sure that the
fingers are looking forward. Attach the other arm and put the needle back into
the first arm exactly in the same place where it came from.
Pull two ends tightly, tie together several times and hide them inside the body.
Now the arms can turn for 360 degrees.
15
ACCESSORIES:
Bag for a star:
Make two circles:
1 rnd: mr, 6 sc (6)
2 rnd: 6 inc (12)
3 rnd: (1 sc, inc) 6 (18)
4 rnd: (2 sc, inc) 6 (24)
5 rnd: (3 sc, inc) 6 (30)
6 rnd: (4 sc, inc) 6 (36)
7 rnd: (5 sc, inc) 6 (42)
8 rnd: front loops only sl st in each st. (42)
Cut the yarn and fasten off.
One of the circles I decorated with colorful
stitches because this bag belongs the girl bear.
Take another colour yarn, fold the circles and crochet them with the reverse sc
into the leaving back loops.
16
Leave 14 loops without crocheting that is the bags hole. Dont cut the yarn,
make 80 ch and connect the chain with another edge of the bag. Crochet the
chain with sl st.
Star:
Crochet the five corners:
1 rnd: mr, 6 sc (6)
2 rnd: sc in each st. (6)
3 rnd: 6 inc (12)
4 rnd: sc in each st. (12)
Cut the threads at four corners and fasten them.
Invisible fasten off
After completing your last stitch, cut yarn, leaving a 4 (10 cm) tail. Pull up on
hook until the cutend is drawn through. Thread cut end onto tapestry needle.
Insert needle from the front tothe back under both loops of not the first but the
second stitch before where you are andpull through. Do not draw too tightly.
Then stitch back into the middle of the last stitch you completed. Insert needle
from the front to the back under the back looponly. Pull the yarn end gently
until the loop is the same size as the V at the top of all your other stitches.
Weave the end through several stitches at the back of your work to secure it.
17
5 rnd: Dont cut the yarn a the fifth corner, take the other corner and crochet 6
sc on it, then take one more for crocheting 6 sc on it. Join all the corners
together by crocheting 6 sc on each other. At last there will be the row of 36
loops.
18
Turn the star and make the back the same way (start with the 5th row)
Leave a long yarn tail, add a bit more stuffing and close the opening Sew the
holes between the corners with the same thread.
Bow:
The bow is crocheted with straight rows, crochet 1ch at the end of each row and
change crocheting into counterclockwise.
Ch 15.
1 rnd: start in 2nd ch. from hook, 14 sc, ch1, turn
2-7 rnd: back loops only 6 rounds sc in each st, turn (14)
Crochet edges with sc, making inc in the corners. Fasten off.
Make a short strap. Make 12 ch, start from the 2nd st from the hook, make 11 sc.
Leave the yarn for the sewing.
19
Pull the middle of the bow by dragging the thread out twice through the
middle. Put the strap and sew the ends. Sew the strap to the bow at the back, so
that it does not move out.
