In addition to his role as Spikes Chairman & Managing Partner, on January 23, 2010, Chuck and his
group of investors (Rangers Baseball Express, LLC), which includes Baseball Hall of Fame pitcher Nolan
Ryan, finalized an agreement to purchase Major League Baseballs Texas Rangers from Tom Hicks and
Hicks Sports Group. Following MLB approval, Chuck will become the Rangers Managing Partner and
Chief Executive Officer.
Greenberg also holds the title of Chairman & Managing Partner for the Myrtle Beach (SC) Pelicans, the
Advanced-A Carolina League affiliate of the Atlanta Braves. In November 2008, Chuck announced the
formation of Greenberg Sports Group (GSG), which provides management, consulting and marketing
services to the sports industry across the country. GSG also manages the overall operations of both the
Spikes and Pelicans.
Highly respected in the baseball industry, Chuck has the distinguished honor of serving as a member
of the Minor League Baseball Board of Trustees, a position he was elected to in December 2007. He
is also on the Board of Directors of the recently-formed Baseball Internet Rights Company (BIRCO),
which holds the digital rights of its member Minor League Baseball clubs and leagues. Chuck also
serves as the Chair of Minor League Baseballs newly formed Diversity Committee, where he was
tapped for a leadership position by Minor League Baseball President Pat OConner in part for his suc-
cess in attracting substantial minority investment to his ownership groups.
Chuck is very instrumental in growing the very strong relationship between the Spikes and their major
league affiliate, the Pittsburgh Pirates, and in working with Penn State University on the financing,
construction and Operating Agreement for Medlar Field at Lubrano Park, which is now the home to
both the Spikes and Penn States NCAA baseball program. The unique relationship between the Spikes
and the University has become a model in the industry among baseball facilities shared by a major
university and a professional sports franchise.
Chucks professional baseball tenure began in October 2001, when he led an ownership group which
purchased the Double-A Eastern Leagues Altoona Curve. During his time as the Curves President
& Managing Partner (2002-08), the club set numerous single-game and season attendance records,
continually re-invested private money into capital improvement projects at Blair County Ballpark, and
helped the franchise gain national stature as one of the most creative and innovative teams in profes-
sional sports. The Curve won the prestigious Larry MacPhail Promotional Award in 2004, the 2006
Baseball America Freitas Award as the top Double-A franchise and added the highest honor bestowed
annually upon a Minor League Baseball club, the John H. Johnson Presidents Trophy, in 2006. Altoona
became only the 11th franchise to receive all three major awards, and was the first team to accomplish
the feat in less than three years.
The 48-year old Pittsburgh native is a practicing corporate and sports attorney and a Partner in the
Pennsylvania-based law firm Pepper Hamilton, LLP, where hes worked since 1998. He also heads the
firms sports practice and is a former member of its Executive Committee.
Among his work in the sports industry, Chuck was instrumental in helping put together the deal that
landed National Hockey League Hall of Famer Mario Lemieux ownership of the bankrupt Pittsburgh
Penguins in 1999 and saved the franchise for Pittsburgh and Western Pennsylvania. In 2007, he repre-
sented Lemieux and the Penguins in successful negotations with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania,
the City of Pittsburgh and Allegheny County which resulted in a deal to build a brand-new, state-of-
the-art arena in downtown Pittsburgh and secure the future of the Penguins in Pittsburgh for at least
another 30 years. Additionally, in 2001, Chuck represented the purchasers of the Florida Panthers in
their acquisition of the NHL franchise.
He also lent his expertise in the acquisition and sale of Minor League Baseball franchises to the same
investor group that purchased the Class-A Midwest Leagues Fort Wayne (IN) Wizards and the Class-A
Advanced Carolina Leagues Salem (VA) Avalanche in 2006. When the group subsequently sold the
Salem franchise, Chuck successfully negotiated with Fenway Sports Group, a wholly owned subsidiary
of New England Sports Ventures, owners of the Boston Red Sox and Fenway Park. Throughout the
course of his career, Chuck has advised on the purchase of more than two dozen franchises in baseball,
football, basketball, hockey, soccer and lacrosse.
Greenberg graduated from Upper St. Clair High School in 1978 and four years later received his B.A.
from Tufts University in Massachusetts. In 1985, he graduated from the University of Michigan Law
School. Chuck and his wife Jennifer have been married for 25 years and have three boys; Jeff (24),
Jack (22) and Benny (20). Jeff graduated from the University of Pennsylvania in May 2008 and is
currently attending Columbia University Law School. Jack attends Penn State and is a member of the
Nittany Lions baseball team. Benny attends Ohio University, where he is studying sports management.

content interests of all Minor League Baseball clubs who are members of the Major League
Baseball Advanced Media (BAM) Network. In December 2009, he was named as the Execu-
tive Director of the New York-Penn League Charitable Foundation.
JD spent 10 seasons working in broadcasting and public relations with the Double-A
Eastern Leagues Altoona Curve from 1999 through the 2008 campaign. Prior to joining the
Spikes, the 33-year old most recently served as Altoonas radio play-by-play broadcaster
and Director of Communications. In addition to his primary role with the Curve, Dambach
has also worked closely with the Spikes since the inception of the franchise, overseeing the
teams broadcasting, media relations, publications and on-line efforts.

vania, where he earned a degree in Communication.

Penn State Partnership
Penn State and the State College Spikes collaborated for a unique, but mutually
beneficial working relationship with the building of Medlar Field at Lubrano Park.
Believed to be one of the first of its kind in the country, this unique partnership not
only benefits Penn State Athletics and the State College Spikes, but also the univer-
sity as a whole, the State College community and all of Centre County.
Penn States baseball team began playing in Medlar Field at Lubrano Park for the
2007 season, with their inaugural game being played on March 23rd against Central
Connecticut State with PSU winning by the score of 8-1. The first game was sched-
uled to be against Pittsburgh on March 21st, however it was snowed out.
Organized baseball began at Penn State in 1893, but the first team was fielded in
1875 with future Hall of Famer and Bellefonte native John Montgomery Ward as the
driving force behind the formation of the team. Ward, enrolled in PSU at the age of
13 and was eventually expelled from the school for stealing chickens. Ward went on
to have a Hall of Fame career primarily with the NY Giants.
Ward hit .371 twice during his career, and also posted two 40-plus win seasons. He
also tossed the second perfect game in professional baseball history, and was the
original manager of the New York Giants. He also pitched the longest complete-
game shut out in history; an 18-inning marathon in 1882. But probably the biggest
impact that Ward had on the game is throwing one of the first curveballs. In the
spring on 1875, Ward tossed a baseball around three stakes that he had driven into
Old Mains lawn, putting himself at the forefront of one of baseballs most crucial in-
novations. Ward struggled to perfect this pitch, losing a game 40-0 during the early
stages at Penn State, but he went on to win 158 games in the major leagues. Ward is
also thought to be the first pitcher to ever intentionally walk a player and also devel-
oped the defense for a double steal that is used from Little League to the pros.
Since 1990, Penn State has had 32 players selected in the MLB Draft, including
former Florida Marlins hurler Nate Bump, and a star who made his career in another
sport. O.J McDuffie was drafted by the Angels in 1991, but made a name for himself
on the gridiron as a member of the Miami Dolphins.
H.O.F & Former Penn Stater Penn State Alum & 2007 Spike
John Montgomery Ward Matt Cavagnaro
Former PSU catcher Joe Blackburn also played at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park in
the pros, but occupied the visitors dugout when doing so. Blackburn played with
the Williamsport Crosscutters, the Philadelphia Phillies affiliate, and went 1-for-4
with an RBI triple on August 17, 2008 against the Spikes.

2010 Coaching Staff
Gary Robinson became the fourth manager in Spikes history on December 19, 2008.
G-Rob has a diverse background in the game of baseball as a player, coach, scout
and umpire. For a decade prior to joining the Pirates organization, he served as a
Triple-A umpire evaluator for Major League Baseball. Away from the game, he has
been an administrator for the Union County School District in North Carolina since
1999.
Robinson enjoyed a very successful 10-year career as the head baseball coach at
the University of North Carolina-Charlotte (now known as Charlotte) from 1982-91,
where his teams compiled a record of 280-244-3. His 49ers teams won 30 or more
games five times and he was the Sun Belt Conference Coach of the Year in 1984. He
was also responsible for 34 of his players signing professional baseball contracts.
Prior to his head coaching stint at UNC-Charlotte, Robinson worked for three sea-
sons as a minor league umpire in the Midwest and Southern Leagues, and broke
into the coaching ranks as a college assistant at Appalachian State (1975-77) and
the University of Tennessee (1978-79).
11
2010 Coaching Staff
Brandon Moore begins his tenth season as a minor league coach and his fourth
in the Pirates system in 2010 as he returns to State College. The native Ala-
baman oversaw a Spikes offense that put up 339 runs last season, good for
third-best in the New York-Penn League.
Prior to joining the Spikes coaching staff, Moore served as hitting coach for the
Altoona Curve for three seasons from 2006 to 2008. B-Mo first joined the Pi-
rates minor league system in 2005 as the hitting coach at Advanced-A Lynch-
burg after serving as a coach in the Chicago White Sox chain from 2001-04.
Moore played seven seasons in the White Sox organization from 1994-2000,
reaching the Triple-A level in both 1999 and 2000. An All-SEC shortstop at
Auburn University, Moore was originally drafted by Chicago in the 17th round of
the 1994 June Draft.
Moore was born August 23, 1973 in Birmingham, AL, and currently resides in
Altoona, AL with wife Kerri and sons Brody (10) and Braden (7).
Mike Steele enters his second season with the State College Spikes, and his as a
pitching coach in the Pittsburgh Pirates organization. Steele was a key factor in the
improvement of the Spikes pitching staff in 2009, which posted the fifth-best earned
run average in the New York-Penn League a year after coming in last. The Spikes
also walked the second-fewest batters in the league under Steeles watch last year.
Prior to joining the Spikes, Steele spent the 2008 campaign with Advanced-A Lynch-
burg. Steele replaced Bob Milacki as Hillcats pitching coach last year at mid-season
after spending the previous two years as the pitching coach at Michigan State Uni-
versity.
After being drafted by the Detroit Tigers in the 29th round of the 2000 June Draft,
Steele pitched professionally from 2000-2005 in the Detroit and Seattle organiza-
tions. Stele is an alum of the New York-Penn League, where he earned his first all-
star recognition with Oneonta. In 2001 with West Michigan of the Class A Midwest
League, Steele was a First-Team All-Class A relief pitcher after going 4-3 with a 1.16
ERA and 19 saves.
Steele graduated from Central Michigan in 2000 with a degree in sports manage-
ment and a minor in business administration. Born August 22, 1978 in Mount Pleas-
ant, MI, Steele now resides in Spring, TX with wife Lydia and their two children.

his eighth in the Pirates organization in 2010. Zalno comes off of a 2009 season
in which he was named the New York-Penn Leagues Trainer of the Year by the
Professional Baseball Athletic Trainers Society.
Prior to joining the Spikes in 2007, the 33-year old native of Clearfield served
as the trainer for Pirate affiliates in Hickory (2006), Williamsport (2005) and
Bradenton (2003-04). Mike makes his off-season home in State College with his
wife Heather.

Conditioning Coach. The 24-year-old is a 2009 graduate of Penn State, where

New York-Penn League History
The New York-Penn League is the oldest continually operated Class A League in Minor
League Baseball. The league is one of the most well-known and respected in the game,
having been the starting point for hundreds of major leaguers and several Baseball Hall
of Famers, including Wade Boggs, Nellie Fox, Phil Niekro, Tony Perez, Warren Spahn and
Robin Yount, as well as baseballs all-time leader in hits, Pete Rose.
In addition, recent big league stars who have played in the NYPL include Jason Bay,
Miguel Cabrera, Chris Carpenter, Carlos Delgado, Roy Oswalt, Aramis Ramirez, Scott Pod-
sednik, Johan Santana, Billy Wagner and Kerry Wood. One former NYPL player went on
to receive a different honor, as a member of the Football Hall of Fame. John Elway, who
finished his illustrious NFL career with 300 passing touchdowns, was an outfielder with
the Oneonta Yankees during the 1982 season. Another gridiron star, Ricky Williams, who
went on to star for the Miami Dolphins, played for the Batavia Muckdogs in 1998 and hit
.283 with the club.
The league was founded in 1939 with the name Pennsylvania-Ontario-New York League.
This was generally shortened to the PONY League. The original teams included the
Batavia (N.Y.) Clippers, the Bradford (Pa.) Bees, the Hamilton (Ontario) Red Wings, the
Jamestown (N.Y.) Jaguars, the Niagara Falls (N.Y.) Rainbows and the Oleon (N.Y.) Oilers.
The Oilers, a Brooklyn Dodgers affiliate, won both the regular season and playoff champi-
onships in the inaugural season of 1939.
The Hamilton Red Wings folded early in the 1956 season, and without any teams in On-
tario, the league adopted its current name, New York-Penn League, in 1957. The league
crossed back into Canada with the formation of the St. Catherines Blue Jays in 1986. They
were joined by the Hamilton Red Birds in 1987 and the Welland Pirates in 1989, but all
three clubs had moved back across the border by 2000.
To celebrate the rich history and heritage of the New York-Penn League, fans have the
opportunity to vote on the NYPL All-Time Team at VoteNYPL.com. The voting will be
open until August 1, and the NYPL All-Time Team will be announced at the NYPL All-Star
Game in Staten Island on August 17, 2010.

BRRRRRR!
The Spikes 2008 campaign began in Jamestown, where the Spikes met the Jammers on a chilly, rainy
night. Game time temperature was just 52 degrees, the lowest for any Spikes game. The Spikes hung
with the Jammers for the entire contest, coming back from three runs down in the eighth inning to tie
the game. However, Jamestown was able to pull out the win, 7-6, with a game-ending single in bottom
of the ninth off the bat of the Jammers Ernie Banks.

Rosero By a Nose
Ciro Rosero set a Spikes record with five hits in one game against Williamsport on August 8th,
2008, but he nearly had company in that very same game. Chase dArnaud went 4-for-4 in his
first four at bats, and came to the plate twice more with chances for hit number five. However,
dArnaud grounded out in the sixth and grounded into a double play in the eighth, allowing
Rosero the sole five-hit game in Spikes history when he doubled to left field in the eighth. The
Spikes vanquished the Cutters, 14-10, and set a team record for hits in a single game as well
with 20.

Naming Medlar Field at Lubrano Park
Charles Chuck Medlar - PSU Baseball Coach
1963 - 1981
Charles Chuck Medlar was a fixture at Penn State
for over 40 years. He served for over 35 years as the
head athletic trainer, working primarily with the foot-
ball team while also helping establish the foundation
for the athletic training system at Penn State. He
was later the head baseball coach and also served as
an assistant professor of physical education.
Medlar first came to Penn State in 1938 as a three-
sport athlete (football, basketball, baseball). He left
in 1941 to play professional baseball and also served
in the Navy during World War II. After the war and
his professional career, Medlar returned to PSU and
earned his bachelors and masters degrees. Upon
graduating in 1946, Medlar was hired as an athletic
trainer, where he worked under four head football
coaches: Bob Higgins, Joe Bedenk, Rip Engle, and
current head coach Joe Paterno. While in this role,
he also served as an assistant baseball coach.
Lubrano currently resides in Glemoore, PA with his wife and three daughters.

LEED Certification
When Medlar Field at Lubrano Park opened its gates on June 20, 2006 it became the first
LEED-certified stadium in the world. Below you will find information detailing what exactly
it means to be a LEED-certified stadium, examples of specific things that make Medlar
Field at Lubrano Park LEED-certified and other things the Spikes do with the environment
in mind.
WHAT IS LEED?
LEED stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design. The LEED certification,
which is awarded by the U.S. Green Building Council, is a third-party certification program
and the nationally accepted benchmark for design, construction and operation of high
performance green buildings. A LEED Certification verifies the building project meets the
highest green building and performance measures. All certified projects receive a LEED
plaque, which is the nationally recognized symbol demonstrating that a building is environ-
mentally responsible, profitable and a healthy place to live and work.
WHAT ARE THE THINGS THAT MAKE MEDLAR FIELD AT LUBRANO PARK
LEED-CERTIFIED?
WATER CONSERVATION:
* Water-conserving sinks automatically shut off after a certain time period.
* Sinks and showers throughout the ballpark use low-flow water, which helps reduce po-
table water by more than 30%.
* Waterless urinals in the mens restrooms not only conserve water, but also eliminate the
need for copper pipe.
* Stadium is connected to a gray water system. Any water that is used in a home, except
water from toilets, is considered gray water. A gray water system allows the stadium to
reuse water that is less refined for things such as irrigation and other uses.
ENERGY CONSERVATION:
* Automatic lights throughout the ballpark turn off after 5 minutes of no movement.
TRANSPORTATION:
* Close access to public transportation, there are two bus stops within one-quarter mile of
the stadium.
* Bike racks are provided at the stadium.
* Shared parking with the existing Bryce Jordan Center means less construction of parking
lots.
CONSTRUCTION:
* Carpets, glues, adhesives and paints used in the ballpark have low amounts of volatile
organic compounds, which are emitted from certain products and can have short- and
long-term health effects.
* 75% of the construction materials were recycled.
* 27% of materials used in construction were made of recycled content.
* The roof was built to decrease the heat island effect.
* Islands of trees and grass in the parking lots also reduce the heat island effect.
* Rock dug out of the outfield was reused as filling material to level the playing field.
* The exterior lighting was designed to eliminate light pollution and light trespass off-site.
* The parking lots are made with permeable pavement, which is a pavement system that
allows water to seep through the surface, permitting natural filtration.
* Native soil from the area was used for the field, eliminating the need to ship in different
soil.
WHAT OTHER THINGS ARE DONE AT MEDLAR FIELD AT LUBRANO PARK THAT ARE
ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY?
* Recycling bins throughout the ballpark, including the offices, clubhouse, press box
and suites. There are recycling receptacles for programs, newspapers, office paper, cans,
bottles and glass.
* Biodegradable hydraulic fluid is used in field equipment.
* Primarily organic fertilizer is used on the field.
* All cooking oil used in the ballpark is recycled.
