NAB was established in 1999 and drives power from National Accountability Ordinance (NAO) which is
Special Law, over riding other laws relating to corruption & corrupt practices etc. NAB is an apex anticorruption organization. NABs approach to enforcement has changed over time: from the initial focus on
high-value, high-profile corruption cases; to making more use of plea bargaining; to the current threepronged approach of awareness, prevention and enforcement. The bureau is performing assigned tasks
under the legal framework of NAO 1999, operational methodology, SOPs and other instructions issued by
NAB HQ The National Accountability Bureau aims to be a credible, effective, efficient and dynamic anticorruption organization creating an enabling environment for a corruption-free society. Bureau is working
to provide for affective measures for detection, investigation, prosecution and speedy disposal of cases of
corruption and corrupt practices.

MISSION
The National Accountability Bureaus mission is to work to eliminate corruption through a
comprehensive approach encompassing awareness, prevention and enforcement. The National
Accountability Bureaus core values in completion of its mission include Integrity, Honor, Dedication,
Dependability, Judgment, Tact, Courage, Proactive Approach and Justice.
OBJECTIVES
To provide for affective measures for detection, investigation, prosecution and speedy disposal of
cases of corruption and corrupt practices.
To recover outstanding amounts from those who have committed default to Bank, Financial
Institutions and Govt. / other agencies.
To recover State money and other assets from those who have misappropriated such money
through corruption and misuse of authority
To educate the society about the causes and affects of corruption
To implement transparent policies and procedures in public sector organizations which are prone
to corruption and corrupt practices;
Increase international awareness that our Nation is readily combating corruption and it seeks/
gives mutual legal assistance concerning corruption and to deal with corrupt persons.
