Class Objectives:
The main goal for the facilitator portion of this class is to facilitate the adjustment
of freshmen honors students to the UConn Honors Community, as well as the general
UConn community and academic environment. Also, students will get to know each other
and come to rely on their classmates. The course objective is to assist first year Honors
freshman with their transition to campus life. This course will provide students with a
preliminary exposure to some of the resources and facilities on campus, boost their
competency in fundamental skills, such as housing and course selection, and encourage
active engagement in campus life. The course will explore the following areas:
1. Professionalism (academic citizenship and rsum workshop)
2. Community
3. Leadership and Initiative in Academic and Extracurricular Activities
4. Campus Resources
5. First-Year Topics
6. Wellness
Expectations:
Attendance: Students will be expected to attend all classes. Attendance will be taken at
the beginning of each class. Please note that some classes will be held at a location other
than the classroom setting. In such cases, we will inform you of the location change at
least a week before. Reminders will also be posted on HuskyCT. Also, the dates and
locations of the classes are all listed in the class schedule.
In addition, all students must attend the mandatory Fall Honors Ceremony on
Tuesday, October 20, 2015. We will attend this event as a class. Failure to do so will lead
to a grade deduction.
Lateness: It is imperative that students arrive to class on time. If a student arrives late,
they are encouraged to enter the room as quietly as possible to minimize disruption of the
class. Also, if a student is aware that they will be tardy on a day of a class trip to another
location, it is advised that they contact one of the facilitators beforehand.
Assignments: Students will complete assignments on time and turn them in to the
facilitators. The assignments will be described in a later section, as well as in class.
Participation: This class is primarily discussion based. Thus, students are encouraged to
be active participants in the discussions and activities. The full benefits of this class will
only be gained through active engagement.
Respect:In this classroom respect is the number one rule. Everyones opinion is
welcomed and valued, but degraded or otherwise rude comments or actions are not.

Students are expected to respect each other, their facilitators, the professor, and most
importantly, themselves.
Assignments:
1. Students will create a first draft rsum and then edit it based on tips and feedback
provided by the Center for Career Development. They will then turn in a final
copy of this rsum to the facilitators.
Grading Policy:
Grades for the facilitator portion of this class will be based entirely on
participation and attendance. If there is an assignment due that a student has not
completed it will count against their participation grade for that day.
