Digipak Analysis: Chloe Walsh

Chloe Walsh analyzed her design choices for a digipak album cover. She chose a black background with white and two shades of green and pink text to create a consistent theme. Font styles were selected to complement the artists - a handwritten style for the album title to seem unique, and a paintbrush style for the artist names. Splatter paint motifs were used throughout to seem modern. Photos on the inside showed the artists' profiles looking at each other to signify their relationship through music.

Digipak Analysis

I decided to use a consistent them

for my digipak, this theme being a
black background with white text and
two shades of green and pink. I
decided to use the black
background as it makes the images
and the texts eye catching and makes them
stand out to an audience. I chose to
use the colours green and pink as they
complement each other very well and
the two colours represent the two artists; pink for Ava-Grace and green
for Stanley Knight. Using a colour filter does not follow the conventions of a pop
digipak as they usually have the artist in high key lighting
to make them the main focus of the digipak. For example,
in Beyoncs 4 album, on the cover she is positioned
centre of frame with high key lighting highlighting her face.
I chose to use this particular font for the title of the album
as it was very simplistic however, it had a fun effect to it as
if it had been hand written, this is not a convention of a
typical pop genre album, although I felt the simplicity of
just using writing on the front cover would give this
album a unique selling point. The font I
chose to use for the artist name was quite different to the
album title as it had the effect of a paintbrush and used
capitals. I chose to use this particular style of font because I
felt that, although the artists name was smaller it still
made the name stand out. I also kept the same
colouring of the font using the main of the text as white and
having one letter green and one letter pink in both pieces of
text. This made the copy consistent with the rest of the
theme for the digipak. The type of font that I have chosen follows the
conventions a pop digipak as they are not very sophisticated font styles. For
example, in Katy Perrys Teenage Dream the idea of using balloons as the font
gives the album a fun and interesting image, and also makes it unique from
other pop digipaks.
For the back cover of the album I changed the font to a very simplistic,
sophisticated, typewriter font and kept all of the text white. I decided not to
continue the theme of having a pink and green letter in the font as I felt it would
overpower the digipak and would not make the text of the album title and the
artist name as unique. I also felt that the theme was consistent enough through
the use of the paint splats. I had the idea of paint splats as I felt that it made the
album very modern and it stood out on the back background of the digipak. I
continued the idea of the spats of paint throughout the digipak as there are also
splats on the middle and the disk. I chose to use the initials of the artist on the

digipak to promote the artist and make this font their typography that people
would recognise, therefore I chose to use this font for the artist more than once
and also used this on my poster. For the inside of the digipak I chose to use two
photos, one of the main artist and one of the featuring artist on the main song
for the album. I chose to use the side profiles as it made them appear that they
were looking at each other and signifies their relationship that is created through
the song.
