Introduction

SWOT analysis is an established method for assisting the formulation of strategy. An

application of strategy formulation and its incorporation into the strategic development process

at the City College of Tagaytay is described. The SWOT analysis to resource based planning,

illustrates it as an iterative rather than a linear process and embeds it within the overall planning

process.

It is a strategic planning method used to evaluate the Strengths, Weaknesses,

Opportunities and Threats involved in this study. It involves specifying the objective of the school

and identifying the internal and external factors that are favorable and unfavorable to achieve

that objective.

Education is said to be the lifeblood of every student. At its most complex and

comprehensive, it can be used for business planning; however it is also of value to solving

localized issues and challenges. Being so, the students and staffs of the City College of

Tagaytay are responsible to keep track of the performance of the school, not only annually but

on a more frequent basis. This will allow immediate actions to be undertaken in cases whose

problems are encountered.


Objectives

To analyze how the decision of City College of Tagaytay affect the Business

Administration Department.

1. Identify the problems that are related to City College of Tagaytay encountered by

Business Administration Department.


2. Analyze the performance of City College of Tagaytay.
3. Compare the previous situation with the actual advocacy of City College of Tagaytay.
4. Suggest feasible solutions to the problem encountered by the City College of Tagaytay.
5. Determine the contribution of City College of Tagaytay to the Business Administration

Department.

Setting of the Study


The study was conducted in Kaybagal South, Tagaytay City. The data was conducted

from July 2014.

Definition of Terms

SCHOOL an organization that provides instruction; as a: an institution for the teaching

of children, b: COLLEGE UNIVERSITY c: group of scholars and teachers pursuing knowledge

together that with similar groups constituted a medieval university.

DEPARTMENT one of the major parts of a company, organization, government or

school. It is a division of college or school giving instruction in a particular subject.

EDUCATION the action or process of teaching someone especially in a school, college

or a university.The knowledge, skill and understanding that you get from attending a school,

college or university.A field of study that deals with the methods and problems of teaching.

STRENGTH a quality that allow someone to deal with problems in a determined and

affective way: Force as measured in numbers; effective numbers of any body or organization.

WEAKNESSES the quality or state of being weak: A quality or feature that prevents

someone or something from being effective or useful.

OPPORTUNITIES an amount of time or a situation in which something can be done. A

good chance for advancement or progress.

THREATS a statement saying you will be harmed if you do not do whatsomeone

wants you to do. Someone or something that could cause trouble, harm etc.The possibility that

something bad or harmful could happen.

Objectives
1. To inculcate in every business student academic excellent, professionals and social

responsibility, as well as entrepreneurship.

the needs of business industry.


4. To establish and maintain linkages with other institutions and/or agencies for the mutual

exchange of resources.

Brief History of City College of Tagaytay

The City College of Tagaytay is a government owned and operated institution

established by virtue of City Ordinance no. 2002-229 as a legacy of the local government to the

youth organization of Tagaytay City. In August 2002, the Honorable City Mayor Francis N.

Tolentino thought about the establishment of a City College in response to challenges of

competitive cities programs as well as the need for providing the youth of Tagaytay with

subsidized quality tertiary education. By September 30, 2002, the SangguniangPanglungsod

passed City Ordinance No. 2002-229 sponsored by Honorable CelsoP. De Castro, establishing

the City College of Tagaytay and appropriating 5,000,000Php for the construction and initial

operation of the College for Academic Year 2003- 2004.

Mission

Provide the deserving as well as economically under privileged youth of the city with

subsidized high quality tertiary education and prepare them for a better and more promising
future as efficient professionals truly capable of providing the kind of services that would bring

the country and each people to their right place in the global environment through character and

knowledge

Vision

The highest level of professional and personal existence and commitment through the

development of wisdom and knowledge, skills and abilities, talents and competencies, behavior,

values and attitudes for the greatest number of people to value and practice good character,

sincerely committed as efficient and effective agents of social, moral, cultural and economic

changes towards natural development.

Goals

1. To foster the intellectual, social, moral and spiritual life of its students through quality

tertiary education.
2. To provide the youth with sufficient, relevant and wide range academic disciplines

and expose them to varied curricular and co-curricular experiences that will enhance

their personal, professional dedication and commitment to social, moral, cultural and

economic transformation; and


3. To collaborate with the government and the community in the pursuit of achieving

local, regional and natural development goals.

SWOT ANALYSIS

STRENGTH

- Offers scholarship program


One of the strength of the school is having a free scholarship program handled

by the city government. This kind of program helps the economically indigenous

youth of the city to achieve their goals and to be a professional in the future.

There are two categories of their program: full scholarship program for Tagaytay

residents and 70% of scholarship program for the 7th District care of the

Commission on Higher Education (CHED).


- Increase of population
Nowadays, the college students cannot afford the tuition fees that other

Universityimplemented. Because of the free education, the number of population

inside the school increases.


- Supportive faculty
Faculties encourage and motivate their student to uplift their academic

performance.
- Increase tuition fee for paying students

The increase of the tuition fee of the paying students will enable the school to

provide the learning materials.

- Well-organized departments
Due to the proper division of labor and cooperation of Department Heads,

Student Clubs and Organization.

WEAKNESSES

- Lack of facilities
The school is newly established thats why it cannot yet completely support and

provide its facility needs.


- Lack of professors
Because of the growth of population of City College of
Tagaytay, the field of the professors is not fitted to what they teach.
- Lack of technology support
The fund of City College of Tagaytay is not enough to meet the technological

needs of the students and faculties like computers and projectors.


- Delay in salaries

Since the City College of Tagaytay is a government institution, the salaries of the

employees are delayed.

- Lack of communication of department to school


Because of the delayed announcements and distribution of information, it will

cause an unorganized department and the students will get confused.

OPPORTUNITIES

- More students can study because of the free education


Not all students can afford to study in tertiary school because of financial

problem, thats why they grab the opportunity to study in a free but decent

school.
- Curriculum expansion
...Each department continues to train to stay abreast of changes within its area of

expertise and to be knowledgeable of all rules and regulations governing its area. By so

doing, each department helps to keep the College in compliance of all legal and

mandated requirements.

THREATS

- Other school competitors


The other Colleges and Universities are trying to find the best way to spendtheir

limited resources in order to produce the highest possible educational quality.

These schools are doing a good job in managing their financial resources relative
to other schools but may have larger state funding, higher tuition, or larger

endowments.

- Political
Because City College of Tagaytay is a free education school and it is a

government program, the politicians are using their power to gain more support

from the people of Tagaytay.


- Natural calamities
When natural calamities especially the typhoon hits Tagaytay, the school

facilities, students and faculties will be affected. As a result, classes will be

postponed and for all the part time and full time professors the no work no pay

policy.

Methodology

This section primarily discuss the methods that the author used in the study to describe

the findings and conclusions. It includes the collection of data.

Research method

- This study used the descriptive research method. The descriptive method is appropriate

in answering who, what, and how questions and so as with the needs, perceptions and

attitudes of the respondents. Through this way, the researcher will easily gather the data

that are needed for this study.

Research Respondents

- The researcher gained data from the group of respondents specifically the students,

male and female, employed or unemployed, ages from 18 and above.


Collection of Data

- Information about how the decision of City College of Tagaytay affect the department

that gathered through the situation of the school. Important factors or determinants of

school growth were gathered through observation and consultation with the professors

and staff. Interviews with the students, staffs and faculty of the school were conducted to

attain the other objective of the study. Other secondary data were obtained from books,

magazines, internet and other sources that are related to the school.

Recommendations

This study will benefit not only the school but students and future researchers as well.

For the school, it will serve as a useful guide to evaluate its performance compared to its

competitors. This will also provide indication as to the problems encountered by the school

relating to the student.


For the students, it will serve as an educational tool and reference to better understand

the importance of coming up with the growth of the character of every student because these

serve as monitoring tools in assessing school performance.

Furthermore, this study will benefit future researchers under multiple

academicdepartment such as finance, management, communication and economics as this will

serve as reference to similar case studies in the future.

As a result of the study, the author recommends to increase the number of the

professors and improve the performance and productivity of the school. By doing this, the

school might be able to achieve and surpass its goals and objective.

Finally, the key personnel, must set realistic goals and targets to motivate the students,

staffs and school to improve their performance.

Conclusions

It is not simply enough to identify the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats

of the school in applying the SWOT analysis it is necessary to minimize or avoid both

weaknesses and threats. Weaknesses should be looked at in order to convert them into

strengths. Likewise, threats should be converted into opportunities. Lastly, strengths and

opportunities should be match to optimize the potential of the institution.

The study revealed a positive educational growth which is mainly due to the more

aggressive promotional campaign of the schools competitors. This SWOT Analysis for this

school can be simple and yet effective way to ensuring that all appropriate factors are

considered. Indeed, ensure that under people teachers, support staff, parents and students

are considered along with third party people.


Supportive faculties, well-organized departments, cooperation of the parents and

students were enabling the school to attain its goal and objectives in obtaining the high quality

of education.

In terms of performance, the school was generally improved.
