Hoop Pass
Students Pair Up and get 1 hula-hoop and 1 ball
They must bounce pass the ball into the hoop (lying on the ground) to
their partner
After awhile, students can move around the hoop, trying to score a
point (360 degrees)
This is a modified version of four square
Addition Tag
Students pair up.
Each student starts by holding out 1 fist.
The pair counts to three and then holds out a number on his or her
hand (1,2,3,4,5)
The students must add the two numbers and whoever says it out loud
first, takes off speed walking. The other student must also speed walk
and try to tag their partner.
Once their partner has been tagged, the game starts over.
o Extensions:
o 1. Have students use 2 hands and add the 4 numbers together
o 2. Have students use 2 hands, add their 2 numbers separately,
and then multiply the 2 numbers together
o 3. Have students get into groups of 3 and do the same thing.
2-5 Grade
Oh Deer!
Divide students up into 2 groups and have them stand facing each
other on opposite side lines.
Instruct one group of students that they are the HABITAT and the
other group are the DEER. The habitat group cannot move, until a
deer comes and gets them.
Instruct both groups that there are 3 main important things that
animals need to survive: food, water, and shelter.
Show them the symbols {food-rub your belly, water-cover your mouth,
and shelter-make an O above your head}
Each student will choose a symbol and instruct students to turn around
so that they cannot see each other.
On the count of 3, students will turn around. The deer will have to
run and find a habitat that matches their symbol and return with it
back to their side.
Discuss with students: What happened to the habitat? What happened
to the deer population? What do you think is going to happen next?
If a deer cant find a habitat, it dies and becomes part of the habitat.
You can also discuss survival of the fittest.
