UNIT: Frisbee

SKILL: Forehand Throw

EQUIPMENT: Holla Hoops, Frisbees

GLCEs: M.1.TG.2, K.2.MS.1, K.2.PS.1, B.5.PS.2

ACTION: Throw the Frisbee using the forehand throw with the
correct form
CONDITION: hoops placed at 10,15 and 20 feet
CRITERION: make it into each hoop at least one time within 5
tries

ITIP FORMAT:

1. Anticipatory Set 4 min


a. Show quick video of ultimate Frisbee
b. See how many students have played before
c. Ask them what is a skill they are good at and what is
one they want to work on
d. Ask if they know of another Frisbee game they can play

2. Objectives 2 min
a. Today we will be leaning the forehand throw, some you
of might know it already, so you can help other
students if the need it
b. Forehand throw is one of the main skills to master
before playing ultimate Frisbee or Frisbee golf
c. We will learn the steps on how to correctly throw the
Frisbee in the forehand style, and do some activities to
help you build the skill

3. Explain: Model 4-8 key steps (4min)


1. Put middle and pointer finger together run hand palm up
Fingers
2. Fingers on the inside of rim, thumb on the outside
Placement
3. Step towards target with opposite foot Step
4. Flick wrist and keep palm up Flick
5. Power of throw comes from wrist Wrist

6. Questions to check 2 min

a. What are the 5 steps?


b. Who can show me the 5 steps?
c. What is important to remember at the end of your
throw

7. Mass Practice/Demo 20 min


Bozo Frisbee. There will be 3 holla hoops set up for each small
group to practice with. Students will be in groups of 3-5. The
hoops will be spread apart so they are 10,15, and 20 feet away
from students. They will take turns using the correct form of the
forehand throw to try and make it into each hoop. The goal is to
make it into each hoop with five tries.

(Transition -) 2 min
Call class into their squads. Review the steps to the forehand
throw. Then explain the rules for the relay

8. Independent Practice or Activity 10 min


Split students into teams of 4. The teams will make a square. The
goal of the relay is to throw the Frisbee using the forehand throw
around the square without dropping it. If the Frisbee is dropped,
the group need to start over from the beginning.

9. Closure 2 min
Collect the Frisbees. Have students get back into squads. Ask
them to repeat the steps one more time. Tell them what will be
taught tomorrow.
