UniGear is the new name for the well-established

ZS1 family of switchboards.
Apart from still covering the previous fields of ap-
plication, this new version of the product offers an
unequalled range of new units and functions.
Since its introduction in 1986, more than 50,000
units have been put into service worldwide and
today, thanks to its continual development, we are
pleased to present the latest result of ABBs com-
petence in the field of medium voltage metal-clad
switchboard technology.
UniGear type ZS1 is now part of the ABB UNIque
air-insulated switchboard family.

From ABBs experience in the use of double-level

switchboards, UniGear is now enriched with this
solution too.
UniGear is a single busbar system switchboard in
the double-level configuration. Each panel con-
sists of two superimposed units which are com-
pletely independent of each other.
Each unit can be fitted with either circuit-breakers
or contactors, as well as all the accessories avail-
able for the traditional switchboard units. All the
significant components are identical to those used
for the single-level units.
In its middle part, the panel is provided with a
compartment to take the auxiliary instruments of
both the units. A compartment for housing other
instruments is available in the top part of the
panel.
The double-level units can be coupled directly
with the single-level units, and there is the possi-
bility of extension on both ends of the switchboard.

 UNIGEAR TYPE ZVC

UniGear type ZVC has evolved from the in-

novative ZVC design and has been fully har-
monised into the UniGear platform.
Each unit is equipped with a fused withdraw-
able vacuum contactor. For feeders with
high current, it is possible to fit the contactor
with two fuses in parallel for each of the
phases.
The extreme compactness of the switchgear
(each unit is only 325 mm wide) is one of its
main feature.
The units can be coupled directly with the
main switchboard and there is the possibility
of extension on both ends of the switch-
board.
Thanks to the compact dimensions of the
units and to the possibility of installing the
switchboard against the room walls, the foot-
print is notably reduced, even when using
more than one contactor for complex motor
starters.
