1. Introduction
I graduated from the University of Hong Kong. In July 2009, I joined Ove Arup & Partners
Hong Kong Limited (Arup) as a Graduate Engineer.
During my training in design office, I actively participated in design works of several civil
engineering projects. By conducting detailed designs of various types of civil structures, I
learned considerable knowledge and gained much experience in structural analysis and
design.
After two years of intensive design works, I transferred to construction site as an Assistant
Resident Engineer in a civil engineering contract. In this contract, I acquired practical
experience in temporary works design assessment, material submissions assessment, design
verification, contract administration, financial management, programme control,
environmental and safety management on site.

3. Academic Qualifications
In my Msc (Eng) studies, I learned the BD submission process and relevant Building
(Construction) Regulations by taking the course Professional Practice in Building
Development and Building Planning and Control.
In addition to taking compulsory courses to obtain the master degree, I also selected and sit in
several courses related to structural design and building management to further expand my
knowledge and skills in structural engineering, such as
1. Foundation Engineering;
2. Advanced Reinforced Concrete Structure Design;
3. Tall Building Structures; and
4. Operation and Maintenance of Building and Civil Engineering Works
4.1 Design for MTR South Island Line East Consultancy Agreement C901 - Admiralty
Station and SCL Enabling Works
Client: MTR Corporation Limited. Contract Sum: HK$2,400 million
The project mainly includes a new extension at the east of the existing Admiralty station to
accommodate an interchange concourse, circulation areas and plant rooms for South Island
Line (East) and Shatin Central Link (North South Line). My responsibilities in this project
are summarized as follows:

4.2 Supplemental Agreement No. 1 to Agreement No. CE42/2000 (CE) South East
Kowloon Development Stage 2 Infrastructure at North Apron Area of Kai Tak
Airport Design and Construction
Client: Civil Engineering and Development Department, Hong Kong Government.
Contract Sum: HK$268 million
I evaluated the feasible structural schemes for the sewage pumping station by comparing their
costs and construction time. Two way span of walls and raft footing were identified as the

better options than conventional vertical cantilever walls and mini-piles by structural analysis
and cost comparison. In the detailed design stage, I established 3D structural model to assist
with the structural analysis. I also learned the importance of adequate cover, concrete mix and
control of crack width in the durability design of water retaining structures.
Differential settlement is critical to the proposed twin cell box culvert as the soil conditions
varies along with its layout. I calculated soil springs based on SPT N-values as suggested by
the Ground Investigation Report prepared by in-house geotechnical team. By adopting
software Oasys-GSA, I simulated four sections of the box culvert to check its differential
settlement under various soil spring values and considered both construction case and
permanent case in the analysis and design, and provided movement joints every 12 to 15
meters to cater for its movements. Coordination with geotechnical team expanded my views
to the overall structural design process and increased my knowledge in geotechnical
engineering.
A steel frame was proposed by the Architect to be connected to the pumping station as an
open walkway. I simulated this steel frame with Oasys-GSA and considered load
combinations according to the Code of Practice for the Structural Use of Steel 2005,
including thermal load as the frame was subjected to direct sunlight.
I was also responsible for design of drainage and sewerage system according to Drainage and
Sewerage Impact Assessment Reports prepared in preliminary design stage. This further
expanded my exposure to other design disciplines of civil engineering project.
In addition to carrying out the detailed structural and drainage design, my involvement also
includes preparation of design reports, particular specifications, and tender/contract drawings.
I also estimated the quantities of excavated soils, backfill, concrete and steel reinforcement to
be required for the preparation of bills of quantities. Through preparing the relevant

documents, I experienced the tendering process and learned the contract documents were the
basis of contract management in construction stage.
During the tender stage, I attended meetings with relevant government departments,
including CEDD, DSD, LCSD, etc, and prepared meeting minutes. I also proposed utility
layouts after coordination with relevant utility undertakings, including CLP, Towngas,
PCCW, etc. My communication skills were substantially enhanced by intensive coordination
and preparation of relevant correspondence.
Please refer to my Project Report for more details of my involvement in this project.
The proposed monastery is located at mountain area of Ting Kok, Hong Kong. A design team
was established covering various engineering disciplines, including structure, E&M,
geotechnical and civil. I acted as coordinator and designer of civil team for this project.

Government Facilities
Client: Civil Engineering and Development Department, Hong Kong Government.
Contract Sum: HK$268 million
After contract award of Stage 2 Infrastructure works at North Apron Area of Kai Tak
Development, I transferred to the construction site of this contract as Assistant Resident
Engineer. As the only Assistant Resident Engineer in civil discipline on site, I acquired
substantial knowledge, skills and experience in supervision of construction works and
contract management. My main duties are demonstrated as follows:
From reviewing the various temporary works design and method statements, I obtained
extensive knowledge in the structural steel design, construction method of temporary and
permanent structures.

In addition, I prepared several Variation Orders revising the structure framing of the sewage
pumping station in response to DSDs requirement. Through coordinating with the site
quantity surveyor, I ensured that the changes in quantities of reinforcement and concrete were
measured accurately and that good monitoring of the contract sum could be achieved.
Environmental management is also important in ensuring the health and sustainability of the
mankind. I was responsible for checking environmental management plan and its monthly
updates, ensuring the contractor complying with Effluent Discharge License and
Construction Noise Permits, etc.
