Fourier Optics

Objective and contents

This course aims to understand the basics of Fourier optics and analyze optical problems with the
help of approximation made in Fourier optics. This course provides an introduction to Analysis
of Signals and System, Diffraction Theory, Fresnel and Fraunhofer Diffraction, Wave-optics of
Coherent Optical System, Frequency Analysis of Optical Imaging Systems, Wavefront
modulation and Holography. Mathematic transformation of Fourier to polar coordinates, Image
formation by lenses, application of diffraction theory and use of linear system formalism and
Image processing will be discussed. This course also dealt with the fundamentals of holography.
The course involves also the history of the Fourier optics as a whole.
