COMPANY PROFILE
The trainee had their on-the-job training at the Civil Aviation Authority of the
Philippines Laoag International Airport (CAAP-LIA). CAAP- LIA is subdivided into
different department and Air Navigation Service (ANS) is one of them. The trainees
were designated at Laoag International Airport Control Tower
The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP), formerly known as Civil
Aeronautics Administration(CAA) in October 1947, Bureau of Air Transportation
(BAT) in July 23,1979 and Air Transportation Office (ATO) in April 14, 1987. CAAP was
created in 2008 by virtue of Republic Act No. 9497 as enacted into law last March
23, 2008. It is an agency of the Philippines government under the Department of
Transportation and Communication (DOTC). This agency provides safe and efficient
air transport and regulatory services in the Philippines by providing for the creation
of a civil aviation authority with jurisdiction over the restructuring of the civil
aviation system, the promotion, development and regulation of the technical,
operation, safety, and aviation security functions under the civil aviation authority.
The agency organizes conducts and controls civil aircraft accident investigation
within the Philippines territory; participates in the investigation of accidents
involving aircraft registered in the Philippines occurring in the territory of, foreign
country and conducts hearing and makes inquiries or investigates civil crafts
accidents. The agencys main office is located at MIA Road, Pasay City.

LAOAG TOWER/ NAVAIDS FACILITY
We are assign at Laoag Tower/ NAVAIDS Facility, one of the facilities at Laoag
International Airport under the Air Navigation Service. The other facility with areas
of concern would be the RCAG/ Radar Facility located at the same airport. Laoag
Tower/ NAVAIDS Facility is located at Brgy. Gabu, Laoag City. It is the tallest building
in the area as high as 9th floor at the CAB Room area. The Control Tower is located
west of the runway overlooking the West Philippine Sea, at the Northern portion is
the Padsan River.
The facility is actually composed of two type of facility merged into one. A
Navigational Aids Facility and a Tower Facility.
There are two equipment installed which serve as a radio navigational aids,
the DVOR and the DME. This equipment is housed in a building located at the
northern part of the Control Tower, middle portion and west part of the runway.
The Doppler VOR (DVOR) is a variant of VHF Omni- Directional Radio Range
which gives radial direction to aircraft. The other variant being the Conventional
VOR which is used in the earlier days and still in use today in some airports. This
type of VOR uses Doppler Effect in propagating signals which is more immune to
site errors than the conventional VOR.
The Distance Measuring Equipment (DME) gives slants distance to aircraft
with respect to DME station. This is equipment is located with the DVOR.
The Tower Facility housed different communication equipment used as an air-
ground communication. Air-ground communication utilizes VHF AM transmitter/
receivers, while point to point communication uses HF SSB Communication. The
facility also operates VSAT communication as a point to point communication.
Other vital equipment maintained are weather instrument which gives
meteorological data to aircraft controllers.
Aside from electronics radio equipment, the facility also maintains various
visual navigational aids like runway lights and approach lights that servers as visual
landing aid to aircraft.

TECHNICAL SPECIFICATION
COMMUNICATION
The Laoag Radio site provides three VHF frequency channels operating
on 118.100 MHz, 121.500 MHz and 122.300 MHz. Each frequency channel
comprises a main and standby T6T transmitter and a main and standby T6R
receiver.
1. TRANSMITTER
a. PAE T6T
-Two PAE T6T transmitters, one main and one standby are fitted for each
frequency channel.
2. RECEIVER
a. PAE T6R
- Two PAE T6R receivers, one main and one standby are fitted for each
frequency channel.
3. TRANSCEIVER
a. PAE 5W VHF AM BACK UP TRANSCEIVERS (118.1/121.5/122.3 MHz)
- The transceiver operates from either an AC or a back-up DC supply.
When both AC and DC are connected, operation from the AC takes
priority; automatic changeover the DC supply when AC supply, the
equipment reverts to AC operation.
4. ANCILLARIES
a. Communication Control Unit (CCU)
b. Communication Recorder (VLS)
c. Main Distribution Frame (MDF)
d. AR 5000 Multiband Radio Monitor Receiver
e. VHF FM Transceiver (Kenwood)
