ORGANISING THE CLASS:


Procedure: T greets the students, checks attendance, tells Ss what they will be doing during the class, presents the aims
of the lesson to Ss and asks them to decide, at the end of the class, if they all have been reached
Interaction: T-Ss
Material: whiteboard
Time: 5 minutes

LEAD-IN: Modern Living (ex 1, page 83)


Procedure:
T asks Ss to look at the pictures and say what each person is doing and how these activities are related to the title.
Ss go through the list of trends and fads and say which ones are related to the pictures

Interaction: Ss-T, T-Ss


Material: textbook
Time: 5 minutes

SPEAKING PRACTICE: expressing likes and dislikes (ex 2, page 83)


Procedure:
T goes through the useful language box to make sure Ss understand everything
Ss express their personal views regarding the degree of popularity of the trends using the language box
Interaction: PW
Material: textbook
Time: 10 minutes

LISTENING PRACTICE: expressing likes and dislikes (ex. 3, page 83)


Procedure:

T explains the task
Ss listen to the recording twice and do the task and explain whether the speakers like or dislike what they were
talking about

Time: 5 minutes

SPEAKING PRACTICE: describing people (ex 1, page 44)


Procedure:
T asks Ss to look at the people in the pictures in ex 1, page 44 and describe them. Ss do the task and report back
to T individually

WRITING PRACTICE: fill-in exercise (ex 2, page 44)


Procedure:
Ss do a fill-in vocabulary exercise and report back to T

SPEAKIG PRACTICE: choose the correct option exercise (ex 3, page 44)
Procedure:
Ss do a fill-in vocabulary exercise and report back to T

SPEAKING PRACTICE: expressing their personal views (ex. 4 and 5, page 83)
Procedure:
T explains what the quotations mean
Ss work in pairs to express their opinions
T asks Ss to look at the trends and fads in ex 1b. T explains the task (deciding which aspect of modern living
would a person from the previous century find most difficult to get used to and why) and Ss have 4 minutes to do
the task.
