English II- replacement for poetry mash-up project

Choose one of the following poems and follow the directions below:
Wont You Celebrate with Me by Lucille Clifton
In the Inner City by Lucille Clifton
Harlem by Langston Hughes

Go to www.thinglink.com and create an account with an email address and password.

1. Once youve set up your account, go to Create and then Choose images or drag-
and-drop here.
2. Choose or upload an image that corresponds to your particular poem.
3. Create tags where you identify meaningful components of your poem. These will be
similar to bullet points on the image.
Some of the items you should look for include:
i. Sound devices: alliteration, assonance, consonance
Each time you identify one of these, cite the word(s) and in the
description, please explain the effect that it has on the poem.
ii. Figurative language: simile, metaphor, symbolism, personification
Each time you identify one of these, cite the word(s) and in the
description, please explain what it is being compared and why
this comparison is important to the poem.
iii. Identify some meaningful imagery in the poem.
iv. Cite a word that helps you understand the speakers tone towards the
subject in the poem. Explain in the description what that tone is.
v. Are there any words you dont know? If so, link to a definition on
dictionary.com.
4. Create a tag for some music that you feel embodies the mood of your poem, and
place it on the title of your poem. The mood is how the poem makes you feel.
. Go to https://soundcloud.com/ and search for music by artist or title. Once you find
the song that you like, click on it to go to a page dedicated to that song.
. If you dont have a song or artist in mind, go to
https://soundcloud.com/explore to explore music by genre (e.g., classical,
rock, pop, etc.) Copy the URL for that songs page on soundcloud.com, and
then go to your project in thinglink, create a tag, and paste in the URL
for your song. This will allow the song to be played on your thinglink
project.
5. Create a tag for a picture of your poet.
. Search for your poets name on http://www.wikipedia.org/ . Find a picture of your
poet that you like, and Control Click on the picture, and select Copy Link
Address. Return to your Thinklink project and add a tag by pasting this link to your
poets name and describing it. The reason were using Wikipedia is because all of the
pictures on Wikipedia are in the public domain. That means they are not subject to
copyright protection, and anyone can use them without permission or payment.
6. Email me the link to your project at kduncan3@wcpss.net
