5th Grade Math Benchmark Analysis (Spring 2017) - 2

This document summarizes the results of a 5th grade math benchmark assessment given at Midway Elementary. It provides the following information: 1) 87 students took the test and performance levels are broken down by category such as special education, EIP, ESOL and gifted students. Overall performance was mixed with about half showing expected growth and others below or above expected levels. 2) Student strengths included decimals, order of operations, expressions and patterns, and volume. Weaknesses included skills involving fractions, whole numbers, decimals, and conversions. 3) An action plan is outlined to provide tutoring, small group instruction, and online resources to target weaknesses in different content areas. Peer tutors, teachers,

Brandon Counts took the test; however, we cannot find a score for him.

V. ACTION PLAN

Based on this data, I am now going to

Kim Saussy is teaching a three-week fraction unit to 14 students from 7:30 to 8:10 each
morning. The following students are participating in this tutoring: Kelcy Ricketson, Gabriel
Benitez, Molli McQuaig, Hayden Cason, Tommy Nowell, Mason Campbell, Maggie Little,
Hunter Garren, Molli Ann Pitts, Karan Perez, Anthony Diaz, Mary Johnson, Andrew Case,
and Anna Gail Westberry.
I will increase morning tutoring to 4 days per week instead of 3 days Monday, Tuesday,
Wednesday, and Thursday 7:00 to 7:20; this tutoring is offered to all students.
I will continue to tutor on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons for Learning Academy this
has been offered to all SPED students.
Each student will take home a form with their pre-test score and post-test Benchmark
Assessment score (growth will also be included). I will indicate the students weakness on
the sheet. This must be signed by both the parent and student.
Each student has enrolled in a Google Classroom Milestone Review for Math. Additional
resources have been posted in this Google Classroom for all 5 th grade standards. I have
posted notes, power points, old benchmark assessments I have created, worksheets, and
websites for students to use for both weaknesses and strengths. Detailed answer keys for
any worksheets or assessments will be uploaded to the classroom.
Jeanne Crawford will pull out and push in during Block 1. One focus will be calculator
skills with Tuffy Browning, Ashlee Dowling, Sierra Kitchens, and Ansley Roberson.
Kim Saussy will pull out the following students during Block 1: Karen Perez, Molli Ann
Pitts, Anna Gail Westberry, and Anthony Diaz. She will work on weaknesses. These
students had the lowest scores for Block 1 (excluding some of the SPED students).
Groups are subject to change. Mrs. Saussy will pull Kelcy Ricketson, Andrew Case,
Maggie Little, and Mattie Martin during Block 2.
I will pull students in all four blocks and work with small groups on weaknesses. I will
have other students working on weaknesses with a peer tutor (one who has mastered the
standard) to help as needed. I have included a sheet for each block with weaknesses
indicated for each student.
Math Boxes (spiral review) will continue to be completed each day at the beginning of the
class.
I will have peer tutors to help during ELT. I will group the students according to their
weakness and have 2-3 students who have mastered this skill to teach a lesson; practice
for the weak skills will be completed during this time; the teacher in the classroom will
monitor and help as needed. I will pull a small group during this time. If possible, I would
like for Dr. Todd and Mrs. Theresa Alonso to possibly pull a small group during this time.
I will continue to teach test taking strategies to each block.
Constructed response questions will continue to be completed in the classroom. I need to
make sure that students respond to ALL parts of the question. If their response is not
typed, it is not graded (work will not be graded if it is on scratch paper).
Shanna Floyd will begin pulling students especially GATE & high achievers to work on
weaknesses (Monday & Friday). I will also have her work with students to accelerate and
increase student achievement.
Groups for Mrs. Crawford and Mrs. Saussy will change before the Milestones so we will
make sure that we each work with all students.
All students will still be required to get a green light on Reflex (with the exception of
Crawford & Saussy ELT groups).
Students are encouraged to earn a blue ribbon on all areas on Study Island; rewards will
be given for this achievement.
