How To Resize or Rescale An Autocad Drawing: Issue
Issue:
Autodesk AutoCAD 2D drawings are commonly drawn in modelspace at full size, 1:1
scale. Then drawings are plotted or printed at a plot "scale". However, at times the
objects in modelspace are not at full size. If you need the drawing at 1:1, and assuming
everything in modelspace is uniformily at the wrong scale, here are two ways to rescale
or resize the drawing objects to full size scale.
Solution:
Method one (with math):
1. In the drawing that is not at 1:1, find a line that you know what the intended, correct
dimension or length is suppose to be.
2. Use the measure tool to check the distance of the line or object in the drawing.
3. Then with a calculator, divide the intended length by the measured length of what's drawn:
For example: 200.0000 (correct, intended length) / 273.5781 (What's drawn) = 0.73105. Or
another example: 300.0000 (correct, intended length) / 273.5781 (What's drawn) = 1.09658
4. Then using the SCALE command, scale the elements in the drawing by that amount.
Method two (no math):
1. In the drawing that is not at 1:1, find a line that you know what the intended, correct
dimension or length is suppose to be. Then draw another line on top of and aligned to that
existing line, but draw at the correct length. You may wish to use another color from the
original line. Then using the SCALE command, select everything except the reference line
just drawn (or Remove from selection). Hit return.
2. Pick the first point,
3. Then type R for Reference.
4. Pick that first point again.
5. Pick the end of the original line.
6. Then scale by snapping to the end of the new, correct length line.
Here is a Screencast video that demonstrates this: Scaling a drawing to be 1:1
Enlarges or reduces selected objects, keeping the proportions of the object the same
after scaling.
Find
To scale an object, specify a base point and a scale factor. The base point acts as the
center of the scaling operation and remains stationary. A scale factor greater than 1
enlarges the object. A scale factor between 0 and 1 shrinks the object.
Select objects
Specifies which objects you want to resize.
Base point
Specify a base point for the scale operation.
The base point you specify identifies the point that remains in the same location
as the selected objects change size (and thus move away from the stationary
base point).
Note: When you use the SCALE command with annotative objects, the position or
location of the object is scaled relative to the base point of the scale operation, but the
size of the object is not changed.
Scale Factor
Multiplies the dimensions of the selected objects by the specified scale. A scale
factor greater than 1 enlarges the objects. A scale factor between 0 and 1 shrinks
the objects. You can also drag the cursor to make the object larger or smaller.

Reference
Scales the selected objects based on a reference length and a specified new
length.
