READING COMPREHENSION
Its very difficult to imagine a world without television, but TV has not always been
here. It was invented by someone.
The genius inventor was an American teenager. PHILO FARNSWORTH was just
fourteen years old when he had the idea of TV. He thought that an electron beam could
scan pictures and transmit them to remote screens. He was fascinated by electrons and
electronics. When he was just fifteen, he was admitted to BRIGHAM YOUNG
UNIVERSITY. He had to leave the university some years later because his father died.
When FARNSWORTH was 21, he got financial supporters to make his project.
But a Russian immigrant named VLADIMIR ZWORYKIN, from RCA, had the same idea
at the same time. So, The RCA Company made a patent application in 1923 for the
same type of tube for transmitting electronic data.
Unfortunately, THE SECOND WORLD WAR started and FARNSWORTHs
project was postponed. Then, RCA implemented a publicity campaign naming
VLADIMIR ZWORYKIN as the inventor of the television.
