Sentences Worksheet (Underlining Part 1)

A sentence is a group of words that expresses a complete thought. They are made up of a subject
and a predicate. A subject is whom or what the sentence is about and the predicate is the action
the subject does.

Directions: Read each sentence. Draw one line under the subject part and two lines under the
predicate part.

Example A- David went to the park to play soccer.


Answer- David went to the park to play soccer.

1. My family would like to thank you for coming to our dinner.

2. The school teacher started the school year by going over the classroom rules.

3. The students learned that coming to school on time was important.

4. Susie wrote with her pencil during the Math class.

5. The man dreamt of flying in his sleep.

6. The brown bear killed the red wolf.

7. The basketball team played outdoors for practice.

8. The comedian made everyone laugh at his show.

9. The teacher gave the class an opportunity to learn.

10. The students had a spelling test on Friday.

11. We went swimming in the summer.

12. The police help protect the community.

13. I had to clean my garage on the weekend.

14. The people did not receive the message on time.

15. My mom said it was dangerous to walk in the dark alley.

16. I had the opportunity to graduate.
