(a) Using the CPM method, the project time estimate is 19 weeks.
(b) The critical path is G-H-F. It is the longest path in the project network. The critical path activities are
G, H and F. These are the activities that have a slack equal to zero.

Using the PERT method, based on the mean times, G-H-F is the critical path with a normally distributed
project duration with mean of 19 weeks and variance of 0.33 weeks squared. That is mean of 19 weeks
and standard deviation square root (0.33) = 0.57 weeks.
For a conservative estimate, 19 + 3*standard deviations = 19 + 3*0.57 weeks = 20.71 weeks would be a
conservative estimate for project completion. However, there is a great chance that the project can be
completed in less time than the conservative estimate given. A reasonable estimate can be defined as
the most likely time estimate, which is the time that a reasonable person would generally assume it
would take to complete the project. The reasonable time estimate for completion of this project
network = mean + 0*standard deviation, which is equal to 19 weeks. This would usually be considered
as a risky estimate, but since there are 4 nodes that do not have predecessors, and can therefore, be
started at time 0, the estimate using the mean and no standard deviations, may not be so risky after all,
and we can make the assumption that there sufficient resources to start those 4 activities at time 0.
