ACTIVITY#1
ACTIVITY#2
1. Describe the composition of genetic material.
DNA contains four bases: adenine (A), guanine (G), cytosine (C),
and thymine (T). A and G are double-ring structures called purines; T
and C are single-ring structures called pyrimidines. The nucleotide is
the building block of DNA. It is made up of four bases, a five-carbon
sugar deoxyribose, and a phosphate group. - 33 - The double helix
DNA is like a winding staircase. The two sugar-phosphate
backbones make up the sides and the base pairs make up the
rungs or steps of the winding staircase.
2. Describe DNA replication.
DNA replication is the process by which DNA makes a copy of itself
during cell division.
3. Differentiate transcription and translation.
ACTIVITY#3
1. What is genetic engineering? Are you in favor of genetic engineering? Why?
2. What do you think are some of the issues related to biotechnology? Why do
you consider them as issues?
