    1. What two incidents made F. Sionil Jose think that Filipinos are shallow?

    There are two incidents that the author saw that the Filipinos are shallow. First is
    when he was visited by his old Asian friend that used to live near him. The foretold
    observation by his/her friend that there are many Filipinos are talented, still Filipinos
    stayed shallowed. Second is when he was seated beside a form senator named Letty
    Shahani a PHD in Comparative Literature from the Sorbonne recently. The senator
    stated that between the Japanese classical number and the Tinikling by the Filipinos,
    the Japanese classical probably took ten years to master elicited a grudging applause
    compared to the Tinikling which any one could learn for minutes received a standing
    ovation at most.

     Filipinos attitude like “mayabang” and ego driven. (Paragraph 8)
     Lack of courage and perception to deny religious quacks and the thousands who

     Filipinos don’t read books or any materials and focuses more on their gadgets like
    smartphones. (Paragraph 16)
     Filipinos being materialistic and thought this is the only thing that could make

    The author wants every Filipino to move on to another level of sensibility. This
    sensibility will let every Filipino to deny unnecessary things like government
    positions not to be stupid to have something that only gives popularity.
    4. What is the authors challenge to the readers?
    The author challenges its readers to abandon being driven by ego, materialistic and
    open their eyes that being shallow will do anything good on us. These things will only
    keep us being shallow for the rest of our lives.

    The authors wrote the essay to be read by every Filipino who do not realize the
    shallowness that resides on each and every one of us.
