FINAL WRITING TEST, INTERMEDIATE 2018
While on an multinational mission, a piece of equipment on your ship caught fire. You have to write a
report about this event to your superior. Include the following points:
 time and place of the event

 people involved / victims rescue operation (possible)
 causes of fire
 how the Romanian crew helped the victims

SUBJECT: Fire event
INTRODUCTION :
I am writing in response to your order requesting information about the fire event that took
place during the multinational mission ,,BLACKSWAN 18,, onboard of Ronanian ship ,,Grigore Antipa,,.
Below is a summary of the most important relevant points as well as some recommendations.
ACTIVITIES
Our vessel was assigned in providing back-up support for the French vessel. For this reason we
had to keep running all auxiliary generators all the time.
As far as I remember, on the evening of 29 June at approximately 23H15, as our vessel was 10
miles east of Constanta road, I was awakened by the smoke detector. I got out of bed, opened the door to
the hallway where there was quite a lot of smoke. Everyone else had gone out into the hallway where 2Lt
Mihai C told us that fire alarm was raised by the crew from engine room. They reported heavy smoke
coming out of engine room.
In that moment, general alarm was raised and emergency fire team assembled and made ready to
act.
The fire team entered in the engine room and found that the fire has been already extinguished,
only heavy smoke remaining. Close to the affected area two engineers were laying down on the floor with
difficulties in breathing. They were extracted on main deck were fresh air and the first aid given by the
Romanian medical team restore their breathing.
After making sure that they are out of any danger we questioned the two engineers and found that
during their scheduled maintenance in the engine room they were chipping and painting an electric
cabinet door. They didn’t took in consideration that the emergency generator exhaust was in very close
proximity and due to long time running of the generators exhaust was overheated. The fresh paint from
the cabinet walls ignited due to high heat, moment when engineers with the help of portable fire
extinguishers liquidated the fire. Due to high smoke and lack of oxygen they collapsed sort time after the
fire was out.
CONCUSION
After double checking entire area we concluded that al fire hazard was eliminated and the only
damage is burned paint of the cabinet. Having considered the situation, the event doesn’t affected our
mission who was a success.

INTRODUCTION :
I am writing in response to your order requesting information about the bicycle competition that
was organized by our unit on Friday 29 June 2018.
Below is a summary of the most important relevant points as well as some recommendations.
ACTIVITIES
The competition was planned and organized by our unit with the support of local police
department and city hall. Participants were from 10 military units bringing together 50 persons, each
bringing his own bicycle.
The competition was planned in three stages: first stage was 3 kilometers speed competition.
Second stage was 50 kilometers endurance competition and finally last stage was bike maneuvering
skills.
Unfortunately no one from our unit came in the first 3 places in any of the competition stages. In
military units ranking we came 5th and in individual ranking we had two persons in 4th place.
I have to inform you that there was a small incident during stage three of competition when, one
of the participants accidentally fell from the bike and injured his left elbow. Medical team that was in
place applied first aid and assured him and us that this is a minor scratch.
CONCUSION
I would like to conclude that the event was a success and I recommend for the future better
training of our personnel in attempt to be better ranked.
