Perseverance: James 1:12
Blessed is the man who remains steadfast under trial, for when he has stood the test he will
receive the crown of life, which God has promised to those who love him.
And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.
More than that, we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and
endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not put us to shame,
because God's love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given
to us.
Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every
weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before
us,
Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing
of your faith produces steadfastness. And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be
perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.
For you have need of endurance, so that when you have done the will of God you may receive
what is promised.
If we endure, we will also reign with him; if we deny him, he also will deny us;
And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day
of Jesus Christ.
More than that, we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and
endurance produces character, and character produces hope,
Behold, we consider those blessed who remained steadfast. You have heard of the steadfastness
of Job, and you have seen the purpose of the Lord, how the Lord is compassionate and merciful.
May the Lord direct your hearts to the love of God and to the steadfastness of Christ.
I am coming soon. Hold fast what you have, so that no one may seize your crown.
Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every
weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before
us, looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before
him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.
More than that, we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance,
To those who by patience in well-doing seek for glory and honor and immortality, he will give
eternal life;
If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.
And you will be hated by all for my name's sake. But the one who endures to the end will be
saved.
Because you have kept my word about patient endurance, I will keep you from the hour of trial
that is coming on the whole world, to try those who dwell on the earth.
Consider him who endured from sinners such hostility against himself, so that you may not grow
weary or fainthearted. In your struggle against sin you have not yet resisted to the point of
shedding your blood. And have you forgotten the exhortation that addresses you as sons? “My
son, do not regard lightly the discipline of the Lord, nor be weary when reproved by him. ...
Do not fear what you are about to suffer. Behold, the devil is about to throw some of you into
prison, that you may be tested, and for ten days you will have tribulation. Be faithful unto death,
and I will give you the crown of life.
Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. For by it the
people of old received their commendation. By faith we understand that the universe was
created by the word of God, so that what is seen was not made out of things that are visible. By
faith Abel offered to God a more acceptable sacrifice than Cain, through which he was
commended as righteous, God commending him by accepting his gifts. And through his faith,
though he died, he still speaks. By faith Enoch was taken up so that he should not see death, and
he was not found, because God had taken him. Now before he was taken he was commended as
having pleased God. ...
Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways
acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.
Though he fall, he shall not be cast headlong, for the LORD upholds his hand.
“‘I know your works, your toil and your patient endurance, and how you cannot bear with those
who are evil, but have tested those who call themselves apostles and are not, and found them to
be false. I know you are enduring patiently and bearing up for my name's sake, and you have not
grown weary.
And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in
nothing.
Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one receives the prize? So run that
you may obtain it.
So Jesus said to the Jews who had believed in him, “If you abide in my word, you are truly my
disciples,
Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.
Yet the righteous holds to his way, and he who has clean hands grows stronger and stronger.
The Lord will rescue me from every evil deed and bring me safely into his heavenly kingdom. To
him be the glory forever and ever. Amen.
“‘I know your works, your toil and your patient endurance, and how you cannot bear with those
who are evil, but have tested those who call themselves apostles and are not, and found them to
be false.
They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would have
continued with us. But they went out, that it might become plain that they all are not of us.
Strengthening the souls of the disciples, encouraging them to continue in the faith, and saying
that through many tribulations we must enter the kingdom of God.
For this very reason, make every effort to supplement your faith with virtue, and virtue with
knowledge, and knowledge with self-control, and self-control with steadfastness, and
steadfastness with godliness, and godliness with brotherly affection, and brotherly affection with
love.
And knowledge with self-control, and self-control with steadfastness, and steadfastness with
godliness,
Keep a close watch on yourself and on the teaching. Persist in this, for by so doing you will save
both yourself and your hearers.
“‘I know your works, your love and faith and service and patient endurance, and that your latter
works exceed the first.
If indeed you continue in the faith, stable and steadfast, not shifting from the hope of the gospel
that you heard, which has been proclaimed in all creation under heaven, and of which I, Paul,
became a minister.
And you will be hated by all for my name's sake. But the one who endures to the end will be
saved.
Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking
someone to devour.
But Christ is faithful over God's house as a son. And we are his house if indeed we hold fast our
confidence and our boasting in our hope.
May you be strengthened with all power, according to his glorious might, for all endurance and
patience with joy, giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of
the saints in light.
Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the
Lord, knowing that in the Lord your labor is not in vain.
All that the Father gives me will come to me, and whoever comes to me I will never cast out.
May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy
Spirit you may abound in hope.
Here is a call for the endurance of the saints, those who keep the commandments of God and
their faith in Jesus.
The LORD will fulfill his purpose for me; your steadfast love, O LORD, endures forever. Do not
forsake the work of your hands.
For we have come to share in Christ, if indeed we hold our original confidence firm to the end.
So Jesus said to the Jews who had believed in him, “If you abide in my word, you are truly my
disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”
But you, take courage! Do not let your hands be weak, for your work shall be rewarded.”

Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called and about
which you made the good confession in the presence of many witnesses.
Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful.
Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus
Christ. Through him we have also obtained access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and
we rejoice in hope of the glory of God. More than that, we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that
suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope,
and hope does not put us to shame, because God's love has been poured into our hearts through
the Holy Spirit who has been given to us. ...
I will make with them an everlasting covenant, that I will not turn away from doing good to them.
And I will put the fear of me in their hearts, that they may not turn from me.
I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.
Simeon Peter, a servant and apostle of Jesus Christ, To those who have obtained a faith of equal
standing with ours by the righteousness of our God and Savior Jesus Christ: May grace and peace
be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord. His divine power has granted
to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us to
his own glory and excellence, by which he has granted to us his precious and very great promises,
so that through them you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped from the
corruption that is in the world because of sinful desire. For this very reason, make every effort to
supplement your faith with virtue, and virtue with knowledge, ...
I give them eternal life, and they will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand.

James, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ, To the twelve tribes in the Dispersion:
Greetings. Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that
the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. And let steadfastness have its full effect, that
you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing. If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God,
who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him. ...
Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by
testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.
No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let
you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of
escape, that you may be able to endure it.
Therefore, brothers, be all the more diligent to make your calling and election sure, for if you
practice these qualities you will never fall.
“So you, by the help of your God, return, hold fast to love and justice, and wait continually for
your God.”
Through him we have also obtained access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and we
rejoice in hope of the glory of God. More than that, we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that
suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope,
and hope does not put us to shame, because God's love has been poured into our hearts through
the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.
Brothers, I do not consider that I have made it my own. But one thing I do: forgetting what lies
behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the
upward call of God in Christ Jesus.

Beloved, do not be surprised at the fiery trial when it comes upon you to test you, as though
something strange were happening to you.
Consider him who endured from sinners such hostility against himself, so that you may not grow
weary or fainthearted.
Again I saw that under the sun the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, nor bread
to the wise, nor riches to the intelligent, nor favor to those with knowledge, but time and chance
happen to them all.
And we desire each one of you to show the same earnestness to have the full assurance of hope
until the end,
And this is the will of him who sent me, that I should lose nothing of all that he has given me, but
raise it up on the last day.
Therefore do not throw away your confidence, which has a great reward. For you have need of
endurance, so that when you have done the will of God you may receive what is promised.
So then, brothers, stand firm and hold to the traditions that you were taught by us, either by our
spoken word or by our letter. Now may our Lord Jesus Christ himself, and God our Father, who
loved us and gave us eternal comfort and good hope through grace, comfort your hearts and
establish them in every good work and word.
As for that in the good soil, they are those who, hearing the word, hold it fast in an honest and
good heart, and bear fruit with patience.

Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine,
neither can you, unless you abide in me.
Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil.
I give them eternal life, and they will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand.
My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all, and no one is able to snatch them out
of the Father's hand.
But the anointing that you received from him abides in you, and you have no need that anyone
should teach you. But as his anointing teaches you about everything, and is true, and is no lie—
just as it has taught you, abide in him.
Remembering before our God and Father your work of faith and labor of love and steadfastness
of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ.
But as for you, O man of God, flee these things. Pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love,
steadfastness, gentleness. Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which
you were called and about which you made the good confession in the presence of many
witnesses.
We have this as a sure and steadfast anchor of the soul, a hope that enters into the inner place
behind the curtain,
For those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, in
order that he might be the firstborn among many brothers.

Consider him who endured from sinners such hostility against himself, so that you may not grow

Through him we have also obtained access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and we
rejoice in hope of the glory of God. More than that, we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that
