For Third through fifth graders, I choose to set up my classroom in groups of four. I think
it is important for students to be able to work well with their peers and have many opportunities
to interact with their classmates. I want my students to come to school excited to learn and I
believe allowing them to interact with others will help strengthen the enthusiasm. I also have
included the reading Corner with pillows and beanbag chairs to make the room warmer and
inviting to the students. I believe that the warmer environment will help encourage the students'
readiness to learn.
I plan to use centers in the classroom in order for the students to be able to get up and
move around. I will have four centers. One with the teacher, (if the teacher needs to work
individually with students) at the kidney table, the others will be at the creativity table, another
on the rug, and the final center depending on the activity for that day could be at the computers
or on floor by the smart board. The openness around the students desk allow for an easy flow and
an easy path for the teacher to wander and help the students with any group work they may be
working on. This set up allows the teacher to easily gain control if necessary or allow the
