On 4th & 6th December 2017, Paryavaran Dakshata Mandal NGO
conducted 8th Aapala Paryavarn Film Festival at Gadkari Rangaytan,
Thane. Ms. Aarti Madhankar (CSR Head-Bharat Bijlee), Mr.
Prathamesh Kharatmal (Sophiya College), Mr. Mohan Upadhye
(Sahyadri Nisarga Mitra) & Mr. Purushottam Kale (President-
Paryavarn Dakshata Madal) graced the inauguration ceremony. The
festival screened documentaries which focused on effective resource
management. Mr. Prathamesh Kharatmal( from Sophiya College) gave
information about sparrow conservation. Mr. Mohan Upadhye & Mr.
Shankar Ghadge gave information about the activities of Sahyadri
Nisarga Mitra NGO which conserve turtles in Konkan coast. He urged

this ocassion. Discussion on subjects like waste water management,
marine resources, conservation of birds in urban areas, mangrove
conservation etc. was conducted after each documentary. Ms. Rupali
Shaiwale ( Incharge-Paryavaran Shala – Dombivli) anchored the event
& conducted a power point presentation on Paryavaran Dakshata
Mandal's 'Devrai Afforestation Project, Runda’. Another power point
presentation on Green Shoppe was conducted by Ms. Bharti Rokde &
Ms. Shreelata Menon (Green Shoppe –Team). Two thousand five
hundred students from eighteen schools & three colleges attended this
environmental film festival. The objective of this festival was to create
awareness towards environment & implement grassroot level solutions

Thane. It was conducted by Ms. Sudeshna Puntambekar (Consultant-
Eco-Film Club & Editor & Designer Of Aapala Paryavaran Monthly
Online Newsletter). Seventeen people attended it.

Nature Trail At Mamnoli, A Biodiversity Spot
From 27th -30th December 2017, Paryavaran Dakshata Mandal NGO
conducted nature trail & shram daan (voluntary work) at the Nisargayan
centre at Mamnoli. Mr. Shree Tare (Project Coordinator -Nisargayan) was
the facilitator of this activity. Two hundred & seven students from Raja
Shivaji Vidya Mandir, Lokmanya Nagar, Thane participated in this
activity. The objective of this activity was to give an opportunity to urban
students to serve nature & educate them about the biodiversity at
Mamnoli.

On 3rd December 2017, Paryavaran Dakshata Mandal NGO organised a nature trail for 'Bird Watching' at Thane Creek 2017. Mr. Hemant
Karkhanis (Bird expert) was the facilitator of the trail. Thirteen people participated in this nature trail. The objective of this trail was to
acquaint the enthusiastic participants of the two hundred species of birds sighted in Thane Creek.
On 16th-17th December 2017, Paryavaran Dakshata Mandal arranged a naturetrail at Bhigwan & Kumbhargaon Bird Sanctuary.
Bhigwan is located just beside the Ujani Dam & many villages are spread around its backwaters. This backwater offers very good habitat
for wetland birds. Magnificent birds in the backwater habitat at Kumbargaon Village, Sugarcane fields of Dalaj Village & a grassland
habitat at Loni-Kalbhor village were sighted. One hundred & twenty one species of birds of wetland & scrubland, mammals & reptiles
were sighted in this trail. Bird experts Mr. Avinash Bhagat & Mr. Pravin Vishe guided the participants about the habitat, migration &
threats to the wetland birds.
On 24th December, another nature trail was organised at Kachrali Lake, Thane. Ms. Anjana Devasthale (Botanist) was the facilitator of
this trail. Four participants attended this trail. The objective of this trail was to educate the participants about the local trees, their
habitat & the threats they possess in the lake city of Thane.

On 9th December 2017, Paryavaran Dakshata Mandal's Green Lovers Club organised a session on 'Landscaping' at Shriram Vyayam Shala,
in front of Gadakari Ranagayatan, Thane (W). Mr. Nandan Kalbag (Horticulturist) of 'Go Green organization facilitated this session.He
explained the types of plants required for landscaping & conducted a practical session too. Thirty four participants participated in this
session. The objective of this session was to develop interest among urban people in horticulture.

Ankur Theme Park Visit
Visit To Ankur Theme Park, A Natural Key To Urban Environment Restoration
In the month of December, visit to Ankur Theme Park was conducted
for students of various schools & organisations. Visitors were given
information of the various projects in the theme park like
Vermicomposting, Biocomposting, Organic Farming, Rainwater
Harvesting, Butterfly Garden, Shade Garden, Aquaculture, Medicinal
Plants, Magic Bucket etc. The objective of the theme park is to provide
a one stop solution to sustainable progress. One hundred & two
students & two teachers visited the theme park. For more details see
