    OPEN CLOZE: READ THE TEXTS BELOW AND THINK OF A WORD THAT FITS EACH
    GAP. USE ONLY ONE WORD.

    I 1WAS an only child and I always wished I 2 HAD had a sister or a brother to play with. My
    parents 3 BOUGHT / GOT me a puppy instead, but it wasn’t the same! Then soon after I left
    drama school I married my husband. I wish I 4 HAD known him a bit longer –he was a ski
    instructor, 20 years older 5 THAN me, and I should 6 HAVE known it wasn’t going to work out.

    I 7 HAVE always liked singing and dancing ever since I was a child. I 8 USED to love appearing
    in musicals at drama school, but my tutor encouraged me 9 TO do more serious acting instead,
    so I joined the Royal Shakespeare Company. I do enjoy it but thinking back I 10 SHOULD have
    followed my own instincts. But we all make mistakes!

    Apparently, Jane’s aunt 1 HAS died and she’s come 2 HAS some money. She doesn’t know for
    sure what she 3 IS going to do with that money. She said that she plans 4 TO save some to go
    to Australia so maybe she’ll do that, but first she wants to pay 5 OFF her student loan. She is
    also thinking about paying 6 BACK what she owes her father, too. 8DID you hear that the prices
    of houses have gone 9 DOWN? They are certainly 10 MUCH cheaper than before. So perhaps
    she might buy some property.
