College of Medicine
Medicine Student Council
Class 2013 and 2015
547 Pedro Gil Street, Ermita, Manila, 1000
01 April 2009
Dear Sir/Madam:
Good day!
The University of the Philippines College of Medicine (UPCM) is the premier state institution for medical education. It
envisions itself as a community of medical scholars who have a heightened social consciousness, committed to the
development of Philippine society, and focused on community oriented medical education, research and service intended
for the underserved.
Yearly, the college admits 200 of the best and brightest of the nation’s youth. A select 160 top graduates of their
undergraduate courses are accepted into Learning Unit III (LU III) or 1 st year medicine proper. Another 40 students are
accepted into the prestigious Intarmed Program as Learning Unit I (LU I) students directly after graduating from high
school.
This year, UPCM Class 2013 and 2015, in cooperation with the UP Medicine Student Council, has come up with exciting
activities for the incoming LU I and LU III students to make their first few weeks in the university more memorable.
A Freshmen Orientation slated on June 2, 2009, will formally welcome the new medical students into UPCM. During
this event, the freshmen, together with their parents, will be acquainted with the college, introduced to the life of medical
students, and presented with the diverse extra-curricular activities the college has to offer. Guests of honor include UP
Manila Chancellor, Dr. Ramon L. Arcadio, Dean of the College of Medicine, Dr. Alberto B. Roxas, and other college
officials.
A Freshmen Night scheduled on the third week of June will cap the college’s welcoming activities with food, music and
games in the company of old and new friends. Local bands will be tapped for the program.
Along with the aforementioned activities, a Freshman Primer containing pertinent information on the college and its
departments, the curriculum, and courses in first year medicine proper and the Intarmed program will be distributed to the
freshmen. A Freshman Survival Kit will also be given away to better guide the new medical students.
In this regard, to ensure the success of these events, we are asking for your benevolent financial support for these
activities. We strongly believe that lack of finances should not hinder us from achieving our goals. Any amount that you
are graciously willing to donate for this endeavor will be highly appreciated. Receipts and documentation of the event
expenses will be given to you upon your request for transparency. We want to show you our sincerity and that we will be
responsible of your investment. We will also acknowledge your kind donation by including your name in the list of patrons
in the Freshman Primer. We would appreciate receiving your reply no later than Friday, May 15, 2009. Should you have
any questions, please feel free to contact JF Gutierrez at 0917-5365646
We look forward to your early response and thank you for your support and generosity in this undertaking.
