    Activity Type Introduction


    Reading, listening In this engaging worksheet activity, students guess whether a
    and speaking activity, partner can or can't do certain things and then ask 'Can you...?'
    pairwork questions to find out if their guesses are right or wrong.

    Procedure
    Language Focus
    Divide the students into pairs (A and B).
    Modal verbs of ability

    'Can you...?' If possible, put students with someone they don’t usually work
    with or don't know very well.
    'Yes, I can'. 'No, I can't'.
    Give each student a corresponding A or B worksheet.

    Aim Ask the students to write their partner’s name in the space at the
    top of the worksheet.

    Working alone, students guess whether their partner can or can't
    certain things and then
    do the things listed on their worksheet by circling 'can' or 'can't'
    to ask 'Can you...?'
