Activity Based Learning
Introduction
The pedagogy devised for the subject Principles of Management is an integration of
contemporary methods of teaching. It involves a blend of activity based learning and
research. It involves group learning through group activities and a specialized approach for
each section through the identification of the pervasive learning style of the batch.
Objectives
Purposefully engage with learners in direct experience and focused reflection in order
to increase knowledge, develop skills and clarify values.
Attempting to shift from traditional cognitive-based learning to skill-based learning.
Course Overview
The Principles of Management is an important course that aims to introduce students to the
topics of “planning, organizing, coordinating, staffing, directing, controlling, and evaluating
functions of management; leadership roles, and the human aspects of management”.
Faculties will use lecture, readings, case analysis, and simulations (Videos, role play etc.) to
achieve the goals of teaching. From student engagement and learning perspective activity
based learning method is developed.
Division of Groups
a. In this course 240 students are enrolled and divided in to four sections. Every
section will have approximately 60 students. Initially students of every section will
be divided in to six groups. Each group will comprise 10 students in it.
b. The students will be divided by using VAK Learning Style Inventory survey and
put in the group based on learning style as Visual, Auditory and Kinaesthetic. This
will ensure a mixed group of students with different learning styles.
c. Each group will comprise students from all learning style which will facilitate better
learning.
d. Cycle of Learning score sheet is used to identify the learning styles of the students.
This will allow identifying students’ learning style and tendencies to other styles.
e. Once the groups are formed they will sit together for entire semester
The owner/manager of the organization should be able to meet with the students and
allow students to have access to the organization and be able to talk to the employees.

Evaluation Method
This project account 50% marks of internal assessment (10 Marks) and the case booklet and
its solution will account for the other 50% marks of internal assessment. These marks are
divided into two parts;
*Incentive
The four best presentations from the four sections shall be rewarded. This shall be the basis
of a healthy competition among the four sections.
