UNIT 4: Day 1

1. In your scripture study journal, make two columns. Label the first column Seeking Revelation from
God. Label the second column Receiving Revelation from God. In the first column, write at least one
principle you learn from Doctrine and Covenants 8:1 about ways to seek for revelation. In the second
column, write a truth the Lord taught in verses 2–3 about how He speaks to us.
-

Seeking Revelation from God Receiving Revelation from God

That the God will answer what we ask if we ask in faith He will speak to our mind
He will speak to our heart

2. Write in your scripture study journal about a time when Heavenly Father has spoken to your mind
and heart through the Holy Ghost.
- One time I was riding a jeep while on my way home, I heard I small voice telling me to get off the jeep
but I hesitated but again I heard the small voice again then I obeyed the small voice. After getting off the
jeep a few seconds past then the jeep suddenly stopped in the flooded area then passengers
desperately got out of the jeep then the engine of the jeep smoked and made a little explosion.

3. Answer the following question in your scripture study journal: Why does the Lord require us to
personally ponder and study a matter and then bring Him our decisions for confirmation instead of
simply asking Him to make our decisions for us?
- So that we can learn by ourselves and not be spoon fed. If we learn about something by ourselves we
often have a deeper understanding to it than if we receive it.

4. Using what you have learned in Doctrine and Covenants 8–9, in your scripture study journal, outline
a two-to-three-minute talk on receiving revelation from the Lord. Include counsel on what we must
do to seek revelation from the Lord and instruction on how He communicates with us.
- Usually we think of revelation as information. But that idea is wrong, First of all, revelation almost
always comes in response to a question, usually an urgent question not always, but usually. In that sense
it does provide information, but it is urgently needed information, special information. You will need
information, too, but in matters of great consequence it is not likely to come unless you want it urgently,
faithfully, humbly. Moroni calls it seeking "with real intent" (Moroni 10:4). If you can seek that way, and
stay in that mode, not much that the adversary can counter with will dissuade you from a righteous
path. You can hang on, whatever the assault and affliction, because you have paid the price to
figuratively, at least--see the face of God and live. While doing my seminary and reading the doctrine
and covenants I learned that if we pray with faith and an honest heart, we can receive knowledge from
God; and that the Lord speaks to our minds and hearts by the power of the Holy Ghost; If we apply unto
the spirit of revelation, we can be delivered from evil and harm; If we pray with faith and an honest
heart, we can receive knowledge from God. I for one experienced this and I testify in these principles
and I want to apply them in my life and I also invite you to learn these principles and apply them in your
life. I leave this things in the name of Jesus Christ Amen.

desire to assist in the Lord’s work. In the second column, list what Hyrum needed to do to claim those
divine blessings.
-
Promised blessings because of his righteous desires What he needed to do to claim those blessings
The mysteries of God shall be unfolded unto you If you ask of God you shall receive and that if you
