PMNC 2018 President’s Report 2018 started on the back foot with the burglary of our clubhouse, seeing our Defibrillator, much of our uniforms and a large amount of other equipment stolen. But the community rallied and we were able to secure our insurance claim, an emergency grant and donations including 2.5K from Dad’s footy to cover our losses. The event also made us known to our new sponsor, Silk Logistics who came onboard with a 2.5K deal to be our latest uniform sponsor. After this distraction we were able to move on, liaising with council to be a part of the South Melbourne Primary School indoor sports hall trial, while we still negotiated with council about obtaining lights. Another mishap saw the SMPS gym put out of commission with major water damage due to a burst pipe. We hope to rejoin the trial in term 2 and 3 this year as well as continuing to investigate other venues, while we continue to push for lighting at Julier Reserve. We had a midyear Christmas in July function which was enthusiastically attended by many of our senior club members. We used this as an opportunity to provide our senior members with opportunities to socialise and celebrate their involvement in our club. We also continued to grow our wellness programs by offering fitness training to our top under 15 side and a Yoga course to our other members which has been keenly attended. Our teams saw much success. We had runners up and winners in under 15s, under 13s, social ladies and mixed and our under 11s secured 4 players in the Parkville 11 and Under Rep team. Considering our size and our young age this is no mean feat and it proves what a strong foundation we have established at this club. We saw many junior coaches and umpires join our club in 2018 and start their own coaching and umpiring careers. are crucial to our current and ongoing success and I am very proud of everything they have achieved. We continue to look for ways to further support them on their journey by providing structured programming, mentoring and access to theoretical courses. At our end of year function, we congratulated all our teams, particularly our juniors, for a great year of netball. We announced Bridget Slattery and Zara Burdett as our Spirit of Netball and Senior Club Champion respectively and we saw Trish Oliver inducted as our first life member. A well-deserved acknowledgement for Trish and her countless hours of volunteering. We continue to look for ways to improve our club and our 2019 – 2021 strategic plan will build on the strong governance, community and member focus we have instilled to date. We will further focus on defining our club culture and developing high performance netball in an effort to continue the success we have seen to date and in order to be able to retain our talented players through to older age groups and their continued pathways. Finally I would like to thank the committee for their many hours of service over the past 12 months. Thanks to Trish, Dan, Claire, Midge, Vicki, Kate, Lisa and Bec. And a very special thank you to our outgoing committee members Daniel Kogler, Lisa Burdett and Claire Scott who have over the past years provided many hours of volunteer service to the club, as well as much support to Trish and to myself. We would not be the club we are without you all. Thanks Anna Sweeney PMNC President 2018
