ABSTRACT
This study aimed to determine association of the Weekly Allowance the Academic
Performances in E-tech of the students. Specifically it pursued to answer the following
questions: (1) What is the students’ demographic profile in terms of: gender and Weekly
Allowance(2) What is thespending habit of the students? (3) What is the student’s
academic performance in E-tech? (4) Is there a significant relationship between the
students’ weekly allowance and their academic performance in E-tech? It utilized
slovin’s formula to identify the number of samples needed at 10% margin of error
stratified. The stratified random sampling technique was utilized to ensure the
respondents certainly the Muntinlupa National High-School (MNHS-TA) Senior High-
School (SHS-MARITIME STUDENTS) students. There are 4 sections in TVL-Maritime
enrolled in subject of E-tech. The respondents of this research were composed of 20
students coming from the 4 sections in TVL-Maritime during the school year 2018-2019,
one section was excluded since the researchers came from this group. The self-made
survey questionnaire was used to gather needed data in answering the stated problems.
Descriptive statistics such as percentage, pie graph and bar graph were utilized to present
the result of this study. While, Chi-Square was computed to identify the relationship of
the weekly allowances and the academic performances of the student. The results show
that food are the number one priority of the students in school, followed by the
transportation, then the photocopies or handouts in different subject and next was the
projects related in school then lastly the Leisure. Maritime students have an average of
below Php 250 weekly allowance. Most of the Maritime students got 80-84 grades in the
E-tech findings indicate computed p-value was 0.16 at 5% level of significant level.
Since the p-value (0.1616) was greater than the significant level (0.05) it presents that
there is no significant relationship between the students’ weekly allowance and
theiracademic performance in E-tech. This study recommend the school may conducts
seminars about the proper spending habit, this may help students to think more critically,
teach them how to save up money in better ways, and help them to decide how to use
their allowance properly.

This chapter of the paper presents the problem and its setting. It includes the background
of the study, the statement of the problem, significance of the study and scope and
Nowadays there are many students facing many payments every day in school and
financial problem that’s why there were students budgeting their allowance for the food
they will consume, their expenses in commuting, the photocopies in school from various
subjects and sometimes to their leisure that’s why the researcher came up with this
problem. The researchers want to make some awareness in students about their allowance
that’s why the researchers came up to the significant relationship of the weekly allowance
student and the effects in academic performances of the students but the researchers make
it specifically and focus to the allocation of the allowance and the relationship of it in the

This study focused on students allowance and what can be the possible effect of it to the
school academic performance of the student and how they are going to spend their
allowance. The allowances of the students play a big role in their everyday life because
students’ always using money to buy photocopies, food, projects, transportation and
sometimes leisure. This study aimed to identify if there is any possible relationships
between the allowance of the students and their academic performance in Research in

The students need to know how to spend their allowance properly. This make their life
easier because they spend most of their time on school related activities and their
allowance was used to spend for fare, food, materials, project, photocopy and etc.The
students mostly used their allowance in fare due to the distant of school to their home.
The next one was the hand-outs, photocopies and some school supply students need to
their various subjects (Pondang, 2015). There are students having a lack of experience
and proper knowledge about managing their pocket money. That’s why the parents of
every student must teach their children on how to manage money in the best way. And
having some pack lunch everyday can avoid too much spending of pocket money because

work as part of overall contract. The person providing the allowance is usually trying to
control how or when money is spent by the recipient so that it meets the aim of the person
providing the money. For example, an allowance by a parent might be motivated to teach
chores or achievement of specific grades.Financial aid is a help that can be from private

The act or practice of handling one’s person finances. According to Harvey (2012),
money management involves paying the bills, making investments, and paying taxes. The
management of money is a strategic technique to make the money more useful and to
stop spending some money to the things that not really needed in your daily life. The idea

of money management has been developed to reduce the amount of the expenses of the
people. This involves making every financial transaction worth the expense:Avoid any
expenses of the things you really do not need, always buy items, foods or drink that was
having cheaper price but having a good quality andalways think what the benefits of that

ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE
Scottk (2017) stated that academic performance usually discusses to how well a student is
achieving his or her responsibilities and schoolwork. The academic performances are also
14
through examinations, projects and the performance of the student but there are no
general agreement of how it will evaluated. Good academic background can give credit
for the future of every people who attained a passing grade in their schools even in their
previous work. Academic performance was a tool to give a student a grades if the student
did not meet the teachers expectation about their academic performance there are a
possibility the student’s may not passed the subject, because the student did not meet the
concern or issue using the scientific method. It’s the adult form of the science fair
projects back in elementary school, where you try and learn something by performing an
experiment. This is best accomplished by turning the issue into a question, with the intent
of the research to answer the question. In K to 12 curriculum the students taking the
subject of Research of Daily Life, that’s why there were to many problems the K to 12
curriculum facing like the lack of modules of the students need to enhance their
knowledge and to teach them easily, the shortage of classrooms and buildings by this
problem too many students fitting themselves inside the classrooms, and the shortage of
the teacher that make students to be a better person for the future.

Another study by Opoku (2015), this research aims to know the financial literacy among
senior high student. The findings of the study shows that there are some doubts about the
k-12 curriculum because it made students to use more personal money than the old
curriculum and in addition the parent must discuss the right management of the money at
home because” charity begins at home”. The study mentions that personal finance
literacy course is well elaborated in the academic curriculum of senior high schools.

The study of Pondang (2015) was to identify the effect of daily allowance to the
students of BS Statistics-1. This study used a descriptive design. The result of this study
said there are too many problems that are students facing every day like fare, foods,
photocopies and many more. Having an exact allowance can make students make better
decisions of what they need to buy and what they don’t. The study recommend to student
to bring exact money to lessen the expenses of the student inside the school.
Another quantitative study ofLaderas etal. (2010) aimed to enumerate the effects of
the fare to the allowance of the students’. The researcher used interview method to gather
data about their study. The researcher said the commuters must manage their allowance
wisely. As they commute every day, they became more aware how to properly manage
their allowance properly. Hence the students need to know how to budget their money for
fare and this study proclaimed that those who are not using a public utility vehicle, they
also need to know how to budget the money in their everyday life.

THE CONCLUSION AND RECOMMENDATION
This chapter presents the summary of the conclusions that were drawn based on the
findings, and corresponding recommendations.
Conclusion
Based on the findings of the study, the following conclusions were drawn:
1. There are more male respondents than male in this study. Most of the students in TVL-
MARITIME have an average of Php 250 below weekly allowance. Generally the parents
are the source of their allowance, but there are also students having a support came from
financial assistance, scholars, guardian and by their part-time job.
2. The students in TVL-MARITIME are mostly having an average grade of 80-84 in
Empowerment Technology, it means that the students having a good performance in their
Empowerment Technology.
3. The students spend Php 51 to Php 100 for their food, and most of the students in TVL-
MARITIME) prioritized their food for their expenses in school, followed by the
transportation were they spend Php 50 and below, then the students spend Php 21 to Php
40 for their photocopies, while thestudents spend Php 51- Php 100 forthe project, lastly
was the leisure and the students spend Php 51 to Php 100 for it, the result also present
half of the respondent said they are having packed lunch to save money and 39% of the
respondents said they are often to save money while 8% of the respondents answered
they are never save money.
4. There is no significant relationship between the students’weekly allowance and the
students’ academic performance in Empowerment Technology.
Recommendation
Based on the findings and the conclusions of the study, the following are
herebyrecommended:
1. The school may conducts seminars about the proper spending habit, this may help
students to think more critically, teach them how to save up money in better ways, and
help them to decide how to use their allowance properly.
2. Students should think a strategy in how they can save more money. They may bring
packed-lunched every day to lessen their expenses in food and walking from school to
home can also lessen the expenditure of the students in transportation.
30
3. For the teachers, announcing an early advisory about the payment for the photocopies,
hand-outs, and projects. It may help the students to allocate money for the more essential
things to be prioritized.
4. For the DepEd,providing module for the students were a big thing even allowance does
not affect academic performance it can help student to save up more money, save some
time, help teachers in their lessons and help student to achieve more knowledge about the
lessons of the teachers giving to their students.
5. This study can be replicated using large samples and different subject to further
evaluate the association of allowance and academic performance
6. Similar study can be conducted on the possible relationship of allowance to other
variables such as self-esteem, study habit and achievement.
