Equipment Specification
The Paladon hydraulic double acting actuator incorporates the latest technology for the
cylinder and yoke mechanisms. All steel construction means that these units are designed
for the most arduous of operating conditions and are guaranteed to provide extended service
life. Actuators for modulating service include heavy-duty bearings and seals.
- Adjustable end stops are provided for external adjustment and locking.
Materials of Construction
Extras Included
Actuator Controls
The actuator is fitted with the following controls, all tested as necessary in accordance with
PALADON procedures.
Electro Hydraulic Positional Control System – Stayput & Manual Override c/w Fast Open & Valve
Close Lock
Hydraulic fluid is supplied from a centralised source at a pressure of 180 barg into the
actuator hydraulic system. Maximum operating pressure 210 barg. Cleanliness protection of
the fluid is maintained at a level of NAS 1638 class 6 by means of the pressure filter c/w pop
up indicator (Item 2).
On loss of 24V Power Supply or Hydraulic Supply Pressure the system will fail Stayput.
The Customer’s DCS will control two Electro-Hydraulic solenoid valves (Items 9 & 10) to
position the hydraulic actuator (Item 1). Positional feedback will be via a feedback device
(Item 13) mounted within the actuator.
Under normal actuator stayput position the solenoid valves (Items 9 & 10) are de-energised.
To open the actuator, energise the INTERLOCK (Item 8) and OPEN (Item 9) solenoid
valves.
To close the actuator, energise the CLOSE solenoid valve (Item 10).
Tamperproof speed control is adjustable and obtained by valve (Item 4) for actuator Open
and valve (Item 6) for actuator Close. The Rapid Open speed control is by valve (Item 5).
a. Fast Open of actuator is by energising the RAPID OPEN solenoid valve (Item 7) this will
override all other functions.
b. Actuator Lock in Position is by means of INTERLOCK solenoid valve (Item 8). This valve
is normally energised but in close position from customer signal, will de-energise and lock
actuator in close position until energised. The INTERLOCK solenoid valve stops the
actuator being opened but allows CLOSE or RAPID OPEN function.
Manual operation of the actuator is achieved by an integral hand pump (Item 12). For the
operation of the hand pump hydraulic fluid is stored and used from an integral reservoir c/w
flexible separator (Item 16).
Close the hydraulic supply ball valve (Item 14). Energise the appropriate solenoid valve and
operate handpump accordingly.

Connections to the transmitter are made to the screw terminals provided on the top face. No special
wires are required for the output connections, but screened twisted pair cable are the most suitable for Smart In Head Temperature Transmitters
long runs. It is recommended that screened cable is used for the three input signal wires for cable runs DIN Rail Mounted Temperature Transmitters
greater than one metre. All three input wires must have the same core diameter to maintain equal lead Panel & Field Temperature Indicators
resistance in each wire. A Ø4.5mm hole is provided through the centre of the transmitter to allow sensor Temperature Probes
wires to be threaded through the transmitter body direct to the input screw terminals. The screw Trip Amplifiers
terminals have been designed to allow all connection wires to enter from an inner or an outer direction. Signal Conditioners

Figure 3 shows the method of connection to provide a (4 to 20) mA current loop output. The Pt100 sensor
shown would normally take the form of a probe assembly with a three wire connection. The output loop
has a voltage power supply used to provide loop excitation. The load symbol represents other equipment
in the loop, normally indicators, controllers or loggers. Care must be taken when designing the (4 to 20) For further information on all products:
mA circuit to ensure that the total voltage requirements of all the equipment in the loop added together,
does not exceed the power supply voltage. If a number of instruments are connected in the loop, ensure
that only one instrument is tied to ground. Grounding the loop at two points will cause a short circuit of
part of the loop leading to measurement errors.
To guarantee CE compliance, sensor leads must be less than 3 m long and the transmitter housing should
prevent access to the transmitter during normal operation.
