Actuator General Specification

Paladon Hydraulic Double Acting Linear Actuator

The Paladon hydraulic double acting actuator incorporates the latest technology for the
cylinder and yoke mechanisms. All steel construction means that these units are designed
for the most arduous of operating conditions and are guaranteed to provide extended service
life. Actuators for modulating service include heavy-duty bearings and seals.

Main Actuator Features

- ENP coated cylinders with external tie bars where applicable.

- Circular apertures sealed by 'O' rings.

- Heavy-duty piston rod operating in sleeve bearings ensure no degradation of sealing

surfaces due to working loads. Actuators incorporate a central guide rod which
supports the combined piston and guide pin assembly throughout the stroke cycle.

- All critical nuts and bolts are positively locked.

- Adjustable end stops are provided for external adjustment and locking.

- Standard operating temperatures -20°C to +55°C.

- A mechanical position indicator is provided on each actuator.

Materials of Construction

Housing : Carbon Steel

Piston Rod : Alloy Steel, Chromium plated
'O' Rings : Buna-N
Fasteners : Stainless Steel

Valve/Actuator Mounting Assembly

A heavy-duty valve/actuator mounting assembly is provided to give a true running accurate

transmission of thrust and properly aligned with a secure mounting arrangement.

INSTRUCTIONS

Hydraulic Circuit & Operation Description

Electro Hydraulic Positional Control System – Stayput & Manual Override c/w Fast Open & Valve
Close Lock

Operation Description for Circuit Diagram CPC15815-05-02

Hydraulic fluid is supplied from a centralised source at a pressure of 180 barg into the
actuator hydraulic system. Maximum operating pressure 210 barg. Cleanliness protection of
the fluid is maintained at a level of NAS 1638 class 6 by means of the pressure filter c/w pop
up indicator (Item 2).

On loss of 24V Power Supply or Hydraulic Supply Pressure the system will fail Stayput.

The Customer’s DCS will control two Electro-Hydraulic solenoid valves (Items 9 & 10) to
position the hydraulic actuator (Item 1). Positional feedback will be via a feedback device
(Item 13) mounted within the actuator.

Under normal actuator stayput position the solenoid valves (Items 9 & 10) are de-energised.

To open the actuator, energise the INTERLOCK (Item 8) and OPEN (Item 9) solenoid
valves.

To close the actuator, energise the CLOSE solenoid valve (Item 10).

Tamperproof speed control is adjustable and obtained by valve (Item 4) for actuator Open
and valve (Item 6) for actuator Close. The Rapid Open speed control is by valve (Item 5).

Additional features included are as follows:-

a. Fast Open of actuator is by energising the RAPID OPEN solenoid valve (Item 7) this will
override all other functions.

b. Actuator Lock in Position is by means of INTERLOCK solenoid valve (Item 8). This valve
is normally energised but in close position from customer signal, will de-energise and lock
actuator in close position until energised. The INTERLOCK solenoid valve stops the
actuator being opened but allows CLOSE or RAPID OPEN function.

Instructions for Manual Override

Manual operation of the actuator is achieved by an integral hand pump (Item 12). For the
operation of the hand pump hydraulic fluid is stored and used from an integral reservoir c/w
flexible separator (Item 16).

Close the hydraulic supply ball valve (Item 14). Energise the appropriate solenoid valve and
operate handpump accordingly.

prevent access to the transmitter during normal operation.
