VOLUNTEER EXPERIENCE
United Way Youth & Philanthropy Program Fall 2017
Volunteer (by nomination)
The United Way Youth and Philanthropy Program (YAP) empowers youth to take an active role in their
community and understand the role of philanthropy in their lives. The program accomplishes its mission
by enabling students to take part in a process of grant review benefiting local organizations.
I, alongside a group of chosen students from Tompkins County, met throughout the duration of three
months to review grants and were entrusted with $25,000 and the responsibility to allocate it amongst
local nonprofit groups in order to meet their needs.
This program is conducted through the Dryden Central School District and delivers groceries, school
supplies, and other necessary living/healthcare items to families in need over the summer. The DFMC is
comprised of a group of volunteers who shop locally and purchase groceries that are personally delivered
to families, and establish relationships with local nonprofit groups that are willing to donate to the
program.
I served as the Student Ambassador who coordinated the collection of food donations at Dryden Central
School District buildings.
I established a connection between Dryden High School sports teams and the program by implementing
the collection of donations at home sporting events.
