The Life and Works of Jose Rizal

Metacognitive Reading Report #1

Name: Wells, Denzle Date: June 18, 2018

1. Three  (3)  Things  that  I  significantly  learned  from  the  readings

The readings that was assigned to as is very interesting and it helps as know more
on the “Rizal law and the catholic hierarcy” were through this law it will be required to
all public, private, colleges and university courses to know and study the works and
writings of Jose Rizal. But I learned that it did not directly affect our colonial relations
with America, and with Recto’s belief that the reading of Rizal’s novels would strengthen
the Filipinism of the youth and foster patriotism. I also learned that Rizal had given as a
big impact as a hero because he fought freedom in a silent way but has a powerful impact
to us. He writes and expressed his love for us filipinos though the novels he wrote. That’s
why I understand why they approved the Rizal law until now. I also learned that Studying
the Life of Rizal is helping as gain inspiring sources of patrionism through reading the
life and writings of Jose Rizal.

2. Three  (3)  Things  that  are  still  unclear  to  me

With every good, there’s a bad were I found unclear to me is the question of Is the
Rizal law really pertaining us to know the ideals of the freedom and nationalism or to
know and praise Jose Rizal? and maybe the part on The trials of the Rizal bill section 2
were it was told here that the works mentioned in Section 1 of this Act shall be in the
original editions or in their unexpurgated English and National Language versions.

3. I  used  to  think  that….

I used to think that studying and knowing Rizal is enough in our High school days
but we don’t even know that when we applied this in our college life which our minds are
more open and matured to know who is Jose Rizal and we don’t even know what Rizal
Law really is. And with the readings that was required to us, it enlightened us to know the
background story on how our government approved to all schools to study on the Life of
Jose Rizal.

4. Three  (3)  questions  that  I  want  to  ask  about  the  readings

What really is the purpose of the Rizal law? why did they allow to all public,
private, colleges and university courses to require to study the life of Rizal? is it really for
us to know the ideals of freedom and nationalism? or just like Manny Pacquiao who is a
hero to our country that we should know his life and praise him for what he have done to
our country? Another thing is in this readings it let us know more on patrionism as a
filipino right? But why did they did not write it in tagalog?
