COURSE DESCRIPTION:
The course focuses on comprehensive discussion and clinical application of the concepts, approaches,
strategies and processes of community health development; facilitating community involvement in the
identification of health needs and priorities; management of community health programs.
COURSE OUTCOME:
Community Health Service Management provides you with an overview of how community health care
institutions are organized and governed. The overall goals of this course are to develop skills of the
students with the essential managerial skills in planning and evaluating health services and
understanding health needs. Managing people, resources, systems, and processes within health services
to meet the changing environment considering the needs of the public and cost effectiveness. The
following are the specific objectives for this course:
1. Describe the Philippine Health Situation
2. Discuss the current Philippine Health Care Delivery System that have an effect on the
community health
3. Describe the surveillance system for monitoring health status to identify community health
problems
4. Research evidence based public health practices
5. Articulate the different programs of community health improvement
6. Develop the leadership skills to mobilize communities and build capacities to improve
community health status
7. Develop community health action plan
We will learn from each other through class discussion and review of materials in class and via online.
Your healthcare experience is very relevant to your individual learning and to the learning of the class as
a whole. Moreover, it is very important to view and analyze health care management problems from
multiple perspectives. Each of you has unique perspective based upon your prior learning and prior
experience. We will spend a good deal of time discussing health care organizations as systems during
the semester.
GENERAL INFORMATION:
Community Health Care Management is being taught as a “blended” in-person and ONLINE course
giving you the opportunity to experience the “best of both worlds”.
The class will meet every SATURDAY afternoon IN PERSON and ONLINE every Sunday evenings.
In order for this “blended” Health Care Management course to be successful, engagement, participation,
and communication are essential. Discussion is the foundation of this course so the more you’re involved
and participate in all aspects of the class, the more you are likely to get out of it.
ONLINE CLASSESS:
The CHSM online classes are one of the most important and unique parts of the course. On Sunday
evenings when we don’t meet in-person, we will hold a class online using your computer, laptop or
cellphone and the EDMODO Class online. We will meet online from 7pm.
Edmodo is a software tool used as an educational network that aims at providing teachers with told to
help them and communicate with their students. Via EDMODO APP OR WEBSITE, teacher can share
content, texts, videos, homework and assignments with their students online.
With EDMODO, we will be able to have “real classroom discussions” by simply talking over the Edmodo
app or website. Using Edmodo for voice communication makes each online class an easier, somewhat
more enjoyable, and most importantly, a better learning experience.
NOTE: To use the online program, you will need a headphones with microphone for your computer,
laptop or cellphone.
Sign on to EDMODO website before the first class and follow the instructions for getting your computer
or cellphone ready for online discussions.
To help you keep up with the class and for your review, the EDMODO online session will be recorded
and archived on the course website.
If you can’t participate In a given class, then I expect, at a minimum, that you’ll listen to the archived
session and review the PowerPoints or any other materials discussed during the sessions.
COURSE GRADING:
Your final grade will be based on attendance, participation, postings, readings, final paper. Evaluation
and portions of the grade assigned to each of these areas are as follows:
Under normal circumstances, late work will not be accepted without prior agreement, except in the care
of an emergency. You should contact me directly via phone call or email if you have difficulty submitting
an assignment on time.
