AGE SCALE
Tables l.4a, l.4b and 1.4 c categorize labor skills and show
wage levels. At the bottom of each skill class under this table is
shown the totai of effective wage which a given skill is actually
entitled to. This is equal to the basic wage plus all the payroll ad·
ditives. Some estimators treat payro ll additives separately because
casual or temporary employees may not be entitled to oth~r
benefits that regular employees enjoy. Payroll additives as shown
comprise mostly the basic additional benefit that the employee is
entitled to legally. Other benefits may be induded in accordance
to company-drawn policy.
Example 1:
Using table 1 .4a. 1.4b and l.4c compute the following for
foreman in H)86:
a) percentage of payroll addit ives wi th respect to effective
total compensation,
b) percentage of payroll additive with respect to basic wage,
3
c) multiplying factor applied on basic wage (direct labor co, ·
to obtain the total effective labor cost.

CREW RATE
Crew rate is the combined rate of a team of workers organizec
for a particular job under the supervision of a foreman or a leadman
The rate is usually expressed per hour basis and easily convertible
to per manhour r ate to match up with the production tables whicl:
are expressed in manhours.
Example:
Compute the crew r a te and the composite rate per manhour .oi

Tab!es 2.1, 2.2 and 2.3 are graphs showing the' monthly bare
rate hehaviour or trend starting 1976 for selected groups of
",,,,,,.'::::lent. You will notice that i.'l 1984, there was a sharp rise in
:;;:.", that forced ACEL, to prepare an Interim Equipment
. book. Among the major causes of the drastic increase in
:-::lent rental rates in 1984 are as follows:
L Devaluation of the Peso from PH.OO agalnst the U.S.
Dollar to Pl4.00, then allowed to float to become Pl8.00
per U.S. Dollar;
2.. Series of Wage Orders, which increased labor cost by
almost 50%;
3. Two rounds of increases in the price of Petroleum, Oil and
Lubricants which induced an over-aJ.] average effect of
70%;
