–1– PLAY TITLE

ACT NO.
SCENE NO.

Act and Scene number are Gill Sans MT 11 spacing 3.5 from left. Numbers should be
written out in full.

Stage Directions should always begin with the setting in the first line.

Stage Directions are in Times New Roman 11, italics and spacing 1.75 from the left. A
single line should always be left between Scene No. and first stage direction. A line should
also be left between paragraphs and between the stage direction and Character.

CHARACTERS who appear in the stage direction should always be CAPITALISED this
also applies to characters who don’t have full names or do not speak i.e. GUY (Brackets
are not necessary for the full stage direction but can be used inside.)

CHARACTER NAME
Character name is again Gill Sans MT and uses standard spacing (i.e. 0) but uses centre
alignment. Dialogue is Times New Roman font size 11 and uses spacing of 0.75 from left.

To indicate music beginning use a black highlighted line. Press the tab key and in Times
New Roman italics, size 12 type “#[SONG NUMBER] Song Title” The Song Title should
always be in Sentence Case. Create the black line using the space bar to extend the
highlight to the end of the line. The Song Number should be in numbers i.e. 12

CHARACTER NAME
WHEN A CHARACTER SINGS THE LYRICS SHOULD BE TIMES
NEW ROMAN CAPITALISED 11, WITH SPACING OF 4
(Parenthesis can often be found at the top of dialogue)
PARENTHESIS SHOULD NOT EXCEED ONE SENTENCE AND ARE
TIMES NEW ROMAN 11, ITALLICS, SENTENCE CASE AND 1.25
SPACING

CHARACTER 1 CHARACTER 2
If two characters are talking across each Then create a table such as this in the
other document then hide the lines.

“Blackout / Fade Out” - often occurs at the end of scene and should be written thus.
