ABSTRACT

Although humans have different attitudes, they differ in characteristics depending on

whom they are in face of. The primary objective of this study was to describe how a human

behaves in different situations and society.

This was an observational case series with the subject on four (4) different situations.

He was observed when he was alone, in public, in an informal group or with friends, and in a

formal organization.

It has been found out that the subject has different “faces” in different situations/

society he is in. when he was alone, loneliness and boredom maneuvers his actions; when he

was in public, he tends not to mingle with whom he bump in into; with friends, happiness

was drawn in his face; and in formal organization he acts as if he was in control of his

environment.

We have observed that he doesn’t likely socialize with other people. In the interview

he said that he has an experience of bulling because of his appearance and gender preference

that is why he chose not to mingle with strangers.

CHAPTER I

INTRODUCTION

Background of the Study

Human behavior refers to the entire range of actions or mannerisms exhibited

by human beings. It is influenced by culture, genetics, and the attitudes and emotions of the

individual.

There is a great difference between being alone and being lonely. A loner will always

prefer being alone, but they will never feel lonely. Loners are a unique type of people. They

prefer having a smaller circle of friends, and they do not mind spending time alone, being

with themselves. On the other hand, friendship is equally important to our mental health.

Studies even suggested that spending time with positive friends actually changes our outlook

for the better. Meanwhile, the actions of a person in a public and formal society vary from

what the humanity wants a person has to behave. People tend to fit in for acceptance and

praises, not knowing the impact they could give to everyone if they try to standout.

Human behaviors are largely shaped by social norms. The various groups to which we

belong, including the whole of our society, frequently dictates through unspoken rules, as to

what is and is not acceptable behavior. All human societies have demonstrated these social

norms, although they can vary from culture to culture.

Another dominant force in human behavior is what social scientists refer to as core

faith. This includes behaviors influenced by religion and philosophy. Moral systems derived

from personal beliefs in a higher power have a direct influence on the behavior of individuals.
Statement of the problem

This study aims to determine how a person behaves in different situations/ society and try

to satisfy the following statements:

 What does a person does when he is alone?

 How a person behaves in public.

 How a person mingles with his peers.

 How a person acts in a formal organization.

 What are his reasons why he exhibits those actions?

Significance of the study

The study of human behavior is important because it is highly needed in analysing

why human beings feel, think, and act the way they do. Studying human behavior gives a

person knowledge and awareness on how to deal positively with others. For every person to

succeed in life, vital interpersonal and communication skills are necessary to function

adequately in today’s society that is ever changing. It also has played an important role in

improving lives of people who have mental health and behavioral disorders. It has also

facilitated advancements in areas such as early childhood education, organizational behavior

management, and public health.

In this study, we will be able to understand the reasons behind the subject’s actions.

We have come to a conclusion that human behavior should be exercise by everybody in order

to lessen misinterpretations.
Scope and Delimitations

 Scope: The study was conducted in Alabang, Muntinlupa and is limited only

to one person.

 Topic: The study focuses on the actions of the subject in four different

situations/ society: alone, public, with friends, and in formal organization.

 Respondent: We only have one respondent and that is Ms. Jaya, 19yrs old,

homosexual.

 Location: The primary source of data was gathered in Alabang, Muntinlupa.

 Statistical Data: Data were gathered from the documentation of the subject and

from his interview.

 Statistical Tools: the researchers used camera, conducted interviews and

observation as well.

 Duration: The documentation took days in accordance with the subject’s

availability.

 Delimitation: Since the study was conducted on one subject only, the findings

could not be generalized.

CHAPTER II

REVIEW OF THE LITERATURE AND CONCEPTUAL FRAMEWORK

Related Literature

Human behavior is the response of individuals or groups of humans to internal and

external stimuli. It refers to the collection of every physical action and observable emotion

associated with individuals, as well as the human race. While specific traits of one's

personality and temperament may be more consistent, other behaviors will change as one

move from birth through adulthood. In addition to being dictated by age and genetics,

behavior, driven in part by thoughts and feelings, is an insight into individual being, revealing

among other things attitudes and values. Social behavior, a subset of human behavior, studies

the considerable influence of social interaction and culture. Additional influences include

ethics, encircling, authority, rapport, hypnosis, persuasion and coercion.

The behavior of humans (and other organisms or even mechanisms) falls within a range with

some behavior being common, some unusual, some acceptable, and some beyond acceptable

limits. In sociology, behavior in general includes actions having no meaning, being not

directed at other people, and thus all basic human actions. Behavior in this general sense

should not be mistaken with social behavior, which is a more advanced social action,

specifically directed at other people. The acceptability of behavior depends heavily upon

social standards/ norms and is regulated by various means of social control. Human behavior

is studied by the specialized academic disciplines of psychiatry, psychology, social work,

sociology, economics, and anthropology.

Human behavior is experienced throughout an individual’s entire lifetime. It includes

the way they act based on different factors such as genetics, social norms, core faith, and

attitude. Behavior is impacted by certain traits each individual has. The traits vary from
person to person and can produce different actions or behavior from each person. Social

norms also impact behavior. Due to the inherently conformist nature of human society in

general, humans are pressured into following certain rules and displaying certain behaviors in

society, which conditions the way people behave. Different behaviors are deemed to be either

acceptable or unacceptable in different societies and cultures. Core faith can be perceived

through the religion and philosophy of that individual. It shapes the way a person thinks and

this in turn results in different human behaviors. Attitude can be defined as "the degree to

which the person has a favorable or unfavorable evaluation of the behavior in question. One’s

attitude is essentially a reflection of the behavior he or she will portray in specific situations.

Thus, human behavior is greatly influenced by the attitudes we use on a daily basis.

Conceptual Framework

The components of the Theory of Planned Behaviour concept are defined as:

(1) Attitudes toward the behavior: an individual’s positive or negative evaluation of self-

performance of the particular behavior. The concept is the degree to which performance of

the behavior is positively or negatively valued. It is determined by the total set of accessible

behavioral beliefs linking the behavior to various outcomes and other attributes; the

individual’s beliefs about the potential results of a particular behavior, based on the

subjective probability that the behavior will produce a given outcome.

(2) Subjective norm: an individual’s perception of social normative pressures, or relevant

others’ beliefs that he or she should or should not perform such behavior; the individual’s

perception about the particular behavior, which is influenced by the judgment of significant

others (parents, spouse, friends).

(3) Perceived behavioral control: an individual’s perceived ease or difficulty in performing

the particular behavior, determined by the total set of accessible control beliefs; an

individual’s beliefs about factors that may facilitate or inhibit performance of the behavior.

(4) Intention: an indication of an individual’s readiness to perform a given behavior based on

attitude toward the behavior, subjective norm, and perceived behavioral control, with each

predictor weighted for its importance in relation to the behavior and population of interest.

(5) Behavior: an individual’s observable response in a given situation with respect to a given

target. It is considered a function of compatible intentions and perceptions of behavioral

control in that perceived behavioral control is expected to moderate the effect of intention on

behavior, such that a favorable intention produces the behavior only when perceived

behavioral control is strong.

Research Hypothesis

In this study, we are expecting to come up with an idea on how certain situations or

society affects an individual’s behavior.

1. The subject will act according to his will.

2. The subject will give us different behavior in different situations.

3. The subject will let us realize that understanding human behavior is a must and should

be habitually done in assessing a person.

Definition of terms

 Genetics

 Branch of biology concerned with the study of genes, genetic variation, and

heredity in organisms.

 Social Norms

 Norms are regarded as collective representations of acceptable group conduct as

well as individual perceptions of particular group conduct. They can be viewed as

cultural products which represents individual’s basic knowledge of what others do

and think that they should do.

 Core Faith

 The definition of core is the central or most important part of something. That is

how we see faith and honor in our culture. They are at the center of everything we

do and strive to be. All of our other values are rooted here. Pursuing faith looks

like believing in people wherever they are at in their journey.

 Attitude

 A settled way of thinking or feeling about someone or something, typically one

that is reflected in a person’s behavior.

 Characteristics

 A feature or quality belonging typically to a person, place, or thing and serving to

identify it.

 Behavior

 The way in which one acts or conducts oneself, especially towards others.

 Personality

 The combination of characteristics and qualities that form an individual’s

distinctive character.
CHAPTER III

METHODOLOGY

Research Design

The researchers chose a combination of documentation and interview research design

because it best served to answer the question and purposes of the study.

The Sample

Mr. jusa, a 19 year old, homosexual, is the subject of this research. We have chosen

him because we believe that he could give us what we are trying to observe.

The Instruments

The instruments used are the documentation paraphernalia such as camera, etc.

The Intervention

Since the main objective of this research is to describe how a human behaves in

different situations and society, series of filming with the subject on four (4) different

situations has been done; he was observed when he was alone, in public, in an informal group

or with friends, and in a formal organization.

Data Collection Procedure

In order to collect data from the study, first, we talked to our subject and explained to

him the reason why we are conducting documentation. After both parties have agreed, we

started filming him based on the said four scenarios. Lastly, we interviewed him for the

purpose letting him explain and give us insights with his actions.
Chapter IV

Presentation and analysis of data

The documentation and interview were transcribe and analysed using the holistic approach.

Alone

The subject was bored. According to him, scrolling his phone and watching television

while lying down on the sofa is his daily routine whenever he’s alone.

In Public

He tends not to mingle with whom he bumps in into. There was a time he approached

a guy, who was then playing Mobile Legends, and tries to talk with him but the conversation

was not that long.

With Friends

During the documentation, we have observed that the subject changes his behavior

whenever he is with his friends. He talks a lot, smiles a lot and you can see his true emotions

and actions.

In A Formal Organization

He acts as if he was in control of his environment. The subject tends to be more

submissive to his colleagues and play the role he is tasked to do.

We have observed that he doesn’t likely socialize with other people. In the interview

he said that he has an experience of bulling because of his appearance and gender preference

that is why he chose not to mingle with strangers.

CHAPTER V

CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS

Living in a world full of Mister and Miss Perfects, judgements and discriminations are

habitually observed. In the interview the subject told us that he rarely socialize with other

people because of discrimination. His past experiences, as part of culture, define his behavior.

He chose not to mingle with them in the fear of being bullied again, just because of his

gender preferences.

The subject’s behavior simply depicts that our society today is not ready for the

acceptance of homosexuals. That is the main reason why most of the people who doubted

their gender identity opt to hide and cover their colors. Some, like juday, are brave enough to

show off what they’ve got, but there are some out there who are enveloped with fears and

judgement.

Being homosexual is neither a sin nor a mistake. God created humans equally

according to his image as what the bible says. Let us not all be judgemental and accept our

individual differences. We are all unique. We are all special. We are all God’s children.
