4.1.Electropneumaticpressureconverter
Inadditiontotheexhaustgasrecirculationvalve,electropneumaticpressureconvertersareusedin
theN47TUtopandN57TUtopenginetocontroltheturbinecontrolflapandwastegatevalve.The
electropneumaticpressureconverterusesthevacuuminthesystemandtheambientpressureto
createacontrolpressure(mixedpressure),whichitthenappliestothevacuumunit.Thisenables
anyvariablepositionbetweenopenedandclosedtobeset.TheDDEdeliverstheelectricalsignalon
whichthecontrolpressuresettingisbased.Thismeansthattheturbinecontrolflapandwastegate
valvecanbevariablyadjusted.

4.2.Electricchangeovervalve
ThreeelectricchangeovervalvesareusedintheN47TUtopengine.Thesearerequiredtoactivate
theEGRbypassvalve,thebypassflapandthelow-pressurestagebypassplate.Incontrasttothe
electropneumaticpressureconverter,nocontrolpressureissethere;thevacuuminthesystemis

4.3.Throttle
Thevacuumconsumersareprovidedwiththevacuumfromthevacuumpump.Thesupplyofvacuum
givesprioritytothebrakeservo.Thethrottlesbetweenthevacuumpumpandtheadditionalloads
ensurethatevenifthereisaleakinthevacuumsystem(forexampleduetoadisconnectedor
damagedvacuumline)sufficientvacuumisalwaysavailabletothebrakeserver.

4.4.Vacuumreservoir
Thevacuumreservoirisnecessarytooffsetrequirementsatpeaksofusage.Asonlyacertainvacuum
flowcanpassthroughthethrottle,thevacuumreservoirprovidessufficientvacuumtocontrolthe

Withoutavacuumreservoir,thevacuumpumpwouldhavetobesignificantlybiggertobeableto
