in support of his/her application as stated hereunder.
This letter is in support of his/her application for a South African Work permit in order to be eligible
to receive employment in South Africa and we undertake to carry the costs of repatriation if
necessary that may be deducted from his or her income. We attach herewith proof that we have
advertised this position and could not find any South African Citizen that was a more suitable
candidate.

Application requirements for a General Work Permit
A general work permit is a temporary residency application and as such the below will be
required:

 A completed application form for work permit


A current passport which is valid for at least one year but the longer the validity duration the
better. no less than 30 days after the expiry of intended visit
o The application fee which is currently R1520
o A recent passport size colour photograph Proof of financial means to cover envisaged
living expenses in the Republic until you receive a salary. This should be in the form of:
o bank statements
o cash available, or
o travellers’ cheques
o
o Police clearance certificates for all applicants 18 years and older for all countries that the
applicant has lived in for a period of 12 months or more
o A Medical and radiology report on the prescribed Department of Home Affairs forms
o Where an applicant has travelled through (or intends to) travel through a yellow fever belt a
vaccination certificate
o A birth certificate (unabridged)
o A marriage certificate (where applicable)
o If there is an adopted minor or custody of, proof is required
o If there has been a previous divorce then proof of such
o A death certificate in respect of a late spouse, where applicable.
In addition:

o A contract of employment containing the signatures of both the employer and employee and
terms and conditions of employment.
o A Benchmarking certificate to ensure appropriate and fair salary.
o Original press clipping of advertisement.
o Particulars of unsuccessful candidates (from company).
o Letter of motivation from employer as to why there is a need to employ a foreigner.
o Proof of experience and skills in line with job offer via a CV.
o Repatriation deposit equal to a return ticket to the county of origin of the applicant or a letter of
undertaking from the employer stating that they will be responsible for repatriation costs.
o Proof of qualifications as evaluated by South African Qualifications Authority.
o Proof of registration with professional body, board or council (if applicable).
AND/OR:

• A letter from a foreign or South African organ of State, or from an established South African
academic, cultural or business body, confirming the applicant’s exceptional skills or qualifications.
• Testimonials from previous employers, if applicable, and a comprehensive curriculum vitae

• Other proof to substantiate the exceptional skills or qualifications, such as publications and
testimonials
• A letter of motivation indicating that your exceptional skills will be to the benefit of the
South African environment in which you intend to operate.
• All required documentation for a spouse and/or children if they intend to accompany you
