 Random Question for interview

 Knowing SP.GR for all weighting materials (hematite, barite, marble (f),…….

Hematite =5.1,barite=4.2,marble=2.7

 Knowing the SP.GR for Bentonite, diesel ,safra oil, drilled solids.

Bentonite =2.4,diesel=0.84,safra oil=0.79,drilled solids = 2.65

 What is the max. salinity for CaCl2.

355,000 mg/l & NaCl = 189,000 mg/l

 How to keep eye on rig inventory and daily mud treatment.

Checking chemicals over the rig every day and making mud testing at least twice

a day.

 Why we are using CaCl2 not NaCl in OBM.

Activity w of NaCl max is 0.75, Activity w of CaCl2 is 0.4

And salinity of CaCl2 is higher also and calcium also helps in calcium soap for

good emulsion.

 How to perform hole cleaning .especially in deviated wells.

Optimize the values of 6 & 3 RPM to get the required low shear yield point that is

required to remove cutting (6 rpm=1.2-1.5 hole dia. (inches), hole dia.<

3RPM<1.5 hole dia., LSYP= 2*3rpm – 6 rpm and should be 0.8-1 *hole dia)

Also using Tandem pills will improve hole cleaning (high weighted & low vis.)

 Talk about Centrifuge mechanism.

Centrifuge is a solid control equipment used to remove solids from mud and it

consists of a pump and a bowl that rotates to remove solids and we can use two

to run it as a barite recovery or single as a solids removal.

 How to prove that you have differential sticking.

There is circulation but no pipe rotation

 What is LGS.

SP. Gr. Less than 2.75

 What you will do if XC-polymer is not working.

Perform a pilot test to and also check PH and hardness

 What you will prefer if you need 65 pcf mud (all oil mud or invert emulsion).

 What is the filtrate in HPHT in OBM

Simulation to the passing fluid (filtrate)from mud through the formation(filter

paper) under the same condition (250 F & 500 psi)

 What if u have separation between water and oil IN OBM.

Increase primary and secondary emulsifiers and lime also

 What is the internal and external phase in OBM.

External is oil and internal is water

 What is the max. weight of Na+ formate mud.

82.3 pcf

 What is the max. weight of K+ formate mud.

98.7 pcf

 Why we don’t apply retort in Formate mud.

 What will do if PH of formate mud is low.

 PPT reading evaluation.

 Knowing about Hydro guard and Max bridge mud systems.

Used in over pressurized formation and contains large amount of lcm

 Osmosis effect from shale to mud to avoid swelling.

Osmosis is a phenomenon occurs where a higher salinity fluid and a low salinity

fluid separated by a membrane ,the lower salinity fluid will transfer to the side

with higher salinity.

 How to weight up 90 pcf mud to 110 pcf mud with rough figure (without

equation).

 Ppt test, how to run……..

 Maxshield, Haydrogaurd……why they are using all these chemicals

Used in over pressurized formation and contains large amount of lcm

 Do you can run the Maxshild, Haydrogaurd…… alone?

 Did you run OBM, Formate….

 What is your experience on Cacl2/Caco3 polymer, fluid loss…?

 What is poly amine.

Poly amines are typres of shale inhibitors like (Max guard, ID cap)

 What is chemicals are using on pickling job.

 High shear, low shear, 6 rpm, hole cleaning.

High Shear is the YP , Optimize the values of 6 & 3 RPM to get the required low

shear yield point that is required to remove cutting (6 rpm=1.2-1.5 hole dia.
(inches), hole dia.< 3RPM<1.5 hole dia., LSYP= 2*3rpm – 6 rpm and should be

0.8-1 *hole dia)

Also using Tandem pills will improve hole cleaning (high weighted & low vis.)

 Do you have mud course, what is benefit for that.

 Shale Inhibtion Materials.

Soltex, gilzonite, black fury

 Type and receipt of Stuck pipe, and how to prevent Differential Stuck.

 Hole Cleaning.

 Pm ,Pf ,Mf tests.

Alkalinity of mud, alkalinity of filtirate using phenolphethaden end point is 8.3

Alkalinity of filtrate using methyl orange end point is 4.3

Relations between Pf & Mf (competency test)

 Chemicals used in drilling CMT.

OBM no chemicals are used just prevent cement from getting to tanks

Wbm we use citric acid or sodium bicarbonate to lower ph and precipitate

calcium

 What you do to increase Gel & YP.

Increase viscosity by adding viscosifier according to the type of mud

 How to mix OBM.

Two tanks

1. Safra oil according to required O/W ratio

2. Lime

3. Fluid loss control

4. Primary emulsifier(versamul,invermul)

5. Transfer premixed brine

6. Viscosifier (VG 69,Geltone) with a small hose of water

7. Secondary emulsifier (Versacoat,ezmul)

8. Weighting material (Marble, barite)

 How to optimize 3 & 6 readings in OBM.

6 rpm=1.2-1.5 hole dia. (inches), hole dia.< 3RPM<1.5 hole dia

If less add chemicals like (RM63 , Omni plex)

 How to Calibrate PH meter.

By using the buffer solutions with known ph ,there are three bottles with PH=4

&7 & 10

 Formate Mud.
 LCM.

Two types 1) acid soluble used in pay zone like(Marble , soluflake, n-seal,

oes seal)

2) non acid soluble used at surface like(any other type like barofibre, steel

seal,cotton seeds, etc..)

 Bit Balling.

Use penetrex on mud , and add Condet , LCM may help also if we are able to use.

 Types of stuck And what kind of pills used for Pack off stuck type?

No pills used for pack off because there is no circulation

 How many pounds per barrels used for mixing ?

1) Bentonite in Spud mud 25 ppb

2) XC polymer in spud mud 0.5-1.5 ppb

3) Primary, secondary emulsifiers &fluid loss control in obm

Primary 1-1.5 gpb, secondary 1-1.5 gpb, flc= 6-8 ppb

4) Sun sweep 0.1-0.15 ppb used in milling pill while drilling steel

 Salinity of mud should be higher, equal, less than salinity of formation?

Should be equal to prevent transfer of water (Osmosis) , but it is hard to

equalize so mud salinity should be slightly higher than that of formation.

 If we mixed mud with 86 pcf with marble as weighting material what is

the value of the HGS roughly ?

Zero because there is no high gravity materials used

 Why we should separate the mixing of primary emulsifier and lime?

Because primary emulsifier is a fatty acid and lime is an alkali so reaction

will result a greasing effect.

 How to check if EDTA is giving right results while testing?

Used for testing a sample with a known amount of calcium (Bottled water

with known calcium amount on the label )

 What is jarring ?

Jarring is pulling & running down drill pipe to free stuck pipe specially at

geometrical stuck.

 What will you do if you have a cement job while using wbm and you don’t

have acid ?

Separate the contaminated mud and then use fresh mud and

uncontaminated mud.

 If you are using obm and while drilling you found salinity is very low and

you need to raise it ?

Add calcium chloride bags and let the mixing of one bag takes at least 4

hours while drilling or circulating so the mud will be hot and shearing

while mixing to prevent settling and plugging mud pump.

 How to calibrate Electric stability tester?

There are two resistors with known electric stability value .
