I. Learning Targets:

At the end of the lesson, the student will be able to:


1. determine the difference between cause and effect,
2. identify the cause and effect in a sentence; and
3. formulate sentences using cause and effect relationship.

A. Preliminary Activities

a) Prayer
The teacher will request all the students to stand for the prayer.
b) Greeting
Good Morning Class!
c) Energizer
The teacher will introduce a song “Hello Hello How Are You?” then the students should follow
the song with action.
d) Checking of Attendance
The teacher will check the attendance.
1. Review
Before we move on to our next lesson, do you recall what you have learned yesterday?
What do you call a group of words or phrases that expresses a complete thought or meaning?
What are the two parts of a sentence?
Who can define a subject?
Who can define a predicate?
Who can give an example of a sentence, then identify the subject and the predicate?

III. Teaching Strategies


2. Motivation
Match Sentence Strips

1. The teacher will prepare 10 sentence strips, 5 for the causes with matching 5 for the effects.
2. The teacher will call on 10 students who will join the activity.
3. The 10 students are requested to stand. The teacher will go around and let each of them to pick one
sentence strip.
4. They are not allowed to open the strip. When the teacher says “Go” they will open the strip and walk
around until they find a match.
5. The students will paste on the board the five sentences that they have matched.
6. The teacher will determine if the sentences were formed correctly.

1. Many lives were gone because of typhoon Yolanda.


2. A tornado blew the roof off the house, as a result, the family had to find another place to live.
3. When the ocean is extremely polluted, coral reefs die.
4. There has been an increase in greenhouse gases, therefore global warming is happening.
5. The rain came down so hard that all of the leaves fell off the trees.

B. Lesson Proper

1. Presentation
In this lesson we are going to discuss about cause and effect, clue words that will help you to
distinguish cause and effect and for you to understand the cause and effect relationship.

2. Discussion

a. Prior Learning

The teacher will show a picture on the screen. What can you say about the picture? How did it
happen? Why did it happen? What is the result of this happening?
b. Interactive Learning

What is a cause?

-Cause is why something happened.


-The cause is the first thing that happens.
-The part of the sentence after the word because is the cause.
-The cause answers the question why.

What is an effect?

-Effect is the result of what happened.


-The effect is the second thing that happens.
The effect answers the question:
What happened?
What is the result?

Understanding Cause and Effect Relationships

In some paragraphs, the cause and effect relationship is not directly stated. You have to “read
between the lines”. Use clues from the paragraph to identify cause and effect relationships.

C. Post Activities

1. Generalization

3. What is the importance of the clue words in identifying cause and effect sentences?
4. Who can give a sentence then identify the cause and the effect in every sentences?

2. Application

The class will be divided into two groups. The group will choose a representative who will pick
their topic. After the two groups had received their topic they will be given a one whole size of cartolina
and a pentel pen. They will formulate cause and effect sentences and write it on the cartolina. They can
formulate sentences as many as they can. They will only have 5 minutes to work together after that they
will present their work in front of the class..

The students will get one-half sheet of pad paper. This activity has two parts.

Part I.
The teacher will flash on the screen the five sentences. The teacher will instruct the students to write
the word “CAUSE”if the underlined word is the cause and “EFFECT” if the underlined word is the effect
in a given sentence.

Part II.
The teacher will instruct the students to think of three events in their daily lives that follow a cause
and effect pattern and write a sentence for each one. Use the correct clue words. Encircle the cause and
underline the effect in every sentence.
